I can't tell you how encouraging it is to hear from other Feb. loosers and know I am not alone. I have been so depressed the last few days. I had resigned myself to the fact that yet one more thing did not work. I am out 9 weeks today and I am only down about 30 pounds since surgery. I have been eating between 700-800 calories for the most part. Today I decided to do something drastic to see if my body will respond. I only took in 470 calories and burned 175 on the eliptical. If my body doesn't respond by next week I will be pissed off. It is SOOOOOOOO nice to hear others going through what I am going through I have decided that it is SO helpful to have suport of others who have had surgery around the same time that I have created a yahoo groups support group just for those of us who had surgery in Feb. E-mail me for more information.

Hi - I always write for my husband and we haven't been online for awhile and I wanted to see how everyone was doing. I noticed that everyone here that responded is a woman and I thought you might like my perspective of a man going through this. Dennis had his surgery on 2/28/07 and has lost 48 pounds so far. He didn't have too many problems, he only threw up once and he had the ketosis (I hope that is right). I thought that it wasn't fair - he goes through things easier. But, as I read above - YOU ARE NOT ALONE! His weight loss has slowed down to nothing for the past 3 week, he has been feeling a little yucky, suffering from some head hunger, pushing the limit on what he can eat, testing things he shouldn't be eating and getting frustrated. Now I see he is normal as everyone else. He is doing well now but he knows it wasn't a magic cure but something he still has to work with. Racheal, you made an EXCELLENT decision and I am sure by now you realize that. Congratulations to you!

OK, ladies ... kick in the pants time! We are ALL doing GREAT! Honestly, if we all do what we're supposed to (fluids, protein, vitamins, 600-800 calories a day, exercise) it's BOUND to come off, ya know? Our bodies are all unique and have been thrown into a crazy state by all the change that's coming at them. They may not adjust right away, but they'll adjust, all right! I have come to the conclusion that if I want to have a different outcome than I've had with weight loss attempts in the past, then I have to do things different. And that INCLUDES self-talk! Remember: Failing is not falling down, it is remaining where you have fallen. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER GIVE UP! Hold your heads up, girls! ((((((((((HUGS!))))))))))))) to all my surgery buddies!

Hi Janice - i had RNY, so i'm a bit different...but at 7 weeks out - i'm still having a little problem with chicken. I think it's one of those "tough foods" that takes longer to get used to. -michelle

Topic: RE: Help!!! Very Disapointed!!
DITTO, HELP!!! Right after my Lap Banding on 2/4/08, I was hospitalized again because I had double pneumonia. The diet the hospital provided was just regular food. Spaghetti & meat balls, Sweedish meatballs & noodles, Hamburgers, Rubber chicken, etc. Being a good little patient, of course I ate what I was given. The problem is that when I came home I quickly forgot everything I'd been told about cooking for myself and eating for my Lap Band. On my pre-surgery diet I lost 40lbs. I've not lost any more since. I can't make myself drink the powdered protein drinks; I drink Slim Fast Low Carb -- 4 a day. There's my 80g of protein. But then I'm still hungry. Last night I had a "weigh****cher's" lasagna, carrots and canned peaches. A few hours later I ate a left over pork chop from the night before, and up it came. (that happens to me a lot) Can someone PLEASE help me find a meal planner, or something that can get me on track. I don't want to waste my surgery and be forever stuck at 260. I've only had 1 fill so far. Thanx in advance Pamela

Bonnie, I had my surgery on 2/7/08. I have lost about 45 lbs and I have had one fill. I about starved during my 1st 6 weeks until I got my first fill. I could not be happier. My primary care doc took me off my diabetes pills last week. I have been very strict with my diet, during that time and find that now I have slowed down on weight loss. I have also expanded what I eat to eat more like my family, when we go out, which my be part of it. The lap band does work, but it works better if the band is properly filled. If you are stil hungry, you may have not gotten a complete fill. You also need to keep strict and I find that Fitday.com helps me to keep on tract. Please, keep with it. It is the best decision I have ever made and it feels great to get the "wow, look at you" comment. Sandra

Topic: RE: Craving Bread and Soda!!!!!!!!!!!
I think you are craving the bread & soda so bad because your body is trying to keep u fat. I know it sounds crazy but i never liked bread & all i want is a sandwich & spaghetti, honestley your body got so used to being the size you were its trying to maintain your weight. its nothing you can control until your body relizes that your not starving yourself, & that its actually healthier at a lower weight. eat crakers, or small peices of toast. & you can eat rice & pasta in very small amounts & make sure its cooked if not over cooked because pasta bread & rice expand in your stomach as the soda does. pasta & rice are one of the only foods that do not bother me, so i eat them in very small amounts like you would feed a toddler. thats just my opinion. I am in a state of envy of all the weight the gastric bypass people have lost. With a band, and almost no restriction, I have only lost about 10 pounds. I decided to go back to liquid protien drinks and see if that doesn't kick in a few more pounds before I go see my Dr. next week. I hate to dissapoint everyone by not losing more quickly. I know with the band I just have to be patient. Janice

I had my RNY 2/28/08 and I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one who feels I not losing as fast as we thought. But as I read everyone's email, I have come to the conclusion that those folks who lose 40 lbs + first month are including weight loss prior to surgery. I did not have to do a liquid diet (thank goodness) so I think 28 lb weight loss in 5 wks is okay, I guess. I really thought I would lose at least 40 lbs by now as everyone else who has responded to your emails. But I guess everyone loses on their own pace and at least we are losing. Again, I feel better reading all your replies that we are not the only ones who think we are not losing as much as everyone else. Keep us posted on your progress.
