My One Year Update: 183 Pounds Gone!

Wahoo!  A year ago yesterday, I had my DS with the amazing John Rabkin, in San Francisco (www.paclap.com).

I wrote a one-year update and it is more obnoxiously long than even I care to admit, so I posted it on my OH blog. In it, I cover some of my experiences on topics that seem to come up on this site from newbies, including: bowels, mental health, raising kids in a post-DS world, hair loss and reconstructive surgery. Feel free to read it anytime.

I also created a “year in review" slideshow. It lasts almost 3 minutes and has photos that show the physical transformation I experienced. Please be kind! This is my clumsy way of combining two of my favorite things since my DS: paying it forward and being a camera ***** http://tinyurl.com/Nicolle-at-one-year or http://www.onetruemedia.com/shared?p=81a39e2f9b2684aa3afdba& skin_id=701&utm_source=otm&utm_medium=text_url

(Hope these links work!)

My DS by the Numbers:

--344 lbs THEN and 161 lbs NOW (lost 183 pounds, with no pre-op diet)
--BMI: 55.5 THEN and 26.0 NOW
--Fat: 57.7% THEN and 22.8% NOW
--Fat Free Mass: 145.5 THEN 126 pounds NOW
--50D bra THEN and a 36C bra NOW
--4x tops THEN and a size “large" tops NOW
--30/32 jeans THEN and a size 10 pant NOW
--Size 11 shoes THEN and a 9 or 10 size NOW (yes, your feet can change sizes, too)
--Size 14 underwear THEN and a size 7 NOW

My diabetes and sleep apnea are gone and I am pain-free!

What a year!!!!

183 lbs gone!  WoooHooo!  That is an amazing amount to lose.  I can only imagine how much your quality of life has improved.  I have lost a total of 106 lbs, with only 25-30 more to lose.  I am down to 152'ish (depending on the time of day...lol) and wearing a size 12 loosely (10's fit, but are too snug for comfort so I just tighten my belt and keep wearing my 12s).  My sleep apnea is gone as well and my husband reports that I no longer snore.

It's very encouraging to hear about successes such as yours. Keep up the great work!

I don't snore anymore, either! I can't tell you how many times my husband has awakened me by talking because he thinks I am already awake!

You're doing great--keep doing what you're doing and you'll hit goal in no time!

I just posted this one year (and 3 days) update of my "surgiversary" on my blog page. It feels so good to read, that I re-posted it here too:

I - THEN vs. NOW observations:
Weight:       THEN = 263.5 lbs,  NOW = 168.5 lbs
Pants:          THEN = Red4 Lane Bryant (20),  NOW = 12
Shirts:         THEN = 2x or 18/20,  NOW = Large
Bra:             THEN = 44DD,  NOW = 38D
Panties:        THEN = XL,  NOW = M (stick with Victoria Secret "high cut")
BMI:            THEN: 45.2,  NOW = 28.9
Shoes:          THEN = 8 1/2 W,  NOW = 8 M
Ring Finger:  THEN = 7 1/4, NOW = 6 1/4

II - GOALS...all I've achieved within the past year:

Cross my legs at my KNEES, not my ANKLES
Not have marks on my ANKLES from my SOCKS
Sit in my office chair WITHOUT squeezing out the sides
Not have my THIGHS touch my neighbors on the EXPRESS BUS
Shop for clothes in a REGULAR SIZE STORE
Wear HIGH HEELS
Wear a LITTLE BLACK DRESS
Be Healthy & Fit

III - And here are some things that changed in me (that I didn't even think of until I started writing this list)
I don't snore anymore...at all!
I can RUN up a flight of stairs to catch my express bus (before I missed many buses cuz I had to stop to catch my breath).
I like how I look in pictures.
I now wear a bathing suit w/o a t-shirt to cover me up.
I enjoy clothes shopping - I'm not just the "what do you think..." person anymore
I still love to cook & have learned how to adapt most recipes so that they are healthier.

You look fantastic...I know you must FEEL great!  I can relate to all the things you listed.  I am soooo much happier and outgoing now.  No more blending into the crowd for me.  Like you, I am down to losing that last 25 lbs.  My surgeon told me that I had probably lost all that I would lose from the surgery and that anything else I lose would have to be through my own efforts.  So, I just have to work at it a little harder.  I am giving myself a year to get that last 25 lbs off though.  No rush.  I am already happy where I am and anything else would just be nice.
