Good Morning, I had my surgery on February 13, 2008 and have lost 22 pounds, which is great however it seems to have slowed down as I thought it would. Just wondering what everyone else who had surgery around the same time is eating now? I spoke with my NUT this morning and found out a few things I am doing wrong. (Weight Control Oatmeal, no cheese ) What portions are you eating and how is your weight loss going? Thank yoU!

I am only 1 week out, but according to my surgeon's program I shoud be up to 2 - 4 Tablespoons per meal from week 3 - Month 3. Should be 3 meals a day and then a couple of 1 - 2 Tablespoon snacks. NO protein supplements. Min. 20 minutes per meal. I haven't clarified with them but on paper they don't stress reaching protein goals until after 3 months. Just that what you do eat is focused on protein first and low fat low sugar. Yep that pretty much sums it up. Obviously I'm not where you are so I'm not saying I will be perfect but really trying to follow their guidelines because they have great results in both weight loss & health benefits long term. 4,000 plus surgeries to the programs credit. You're where my mom, 7 yrs out, says it is the hardest energy-wise etc... This is the point where your body is catching up with what you're doing to it. My understanding is, if you keep it up, the weight will come off again. Just a stall. Good Luck, Diana

I had mine one day before you and have lost 18. I too have slowed down. I am eating 3 oz of chicken or fish at a meal. Protein shake gives me 35 grams of protein. Scambled egg with no milk. Oatmeal. I have to say I don't feel great...not bad...just off still.

I was told by my doctor that the expected weight to loss on the first month is the 10% of you starting weight. Personally i was 272lbs before surgery, on my first months appointment, i was 38lbs down. The first two weeks is the fastest ever, because you are not eat (well just broth and jello), on my first 10 days i lost 22lbs. Everyone is different, all depends on how active you are, what you eat and how often. Hope everything is fine and the pounds will come off, just take it easy, remember "the trick is not to loss the pounds, the trick is to maintain them off". God Bless You, Miriam

Hi I am 3 weeks out and I am on puree food for 4 weeks. I have lost 33lbs. You have to take protien supplements for life. Actually I find it hard to eat, because food tastes so different. I eat 1 TBsp of protien and 1 TBsp of veg or fruit. Take 3 shakes if I can get them down and get my water in also of I can, at least 50oz of fluids easy on juice.

I had my surgery on 2/15, and I've lost 22 lbs (in 22 days). To be honest, I'm a little disappointed, I expected more. But I'm eating a lot of different foods, keeping everything low fat and sugar free, and drinking lots of water. I feel pretty much normal; I get hungry every few hours and don't seem to have any problems with the foods I'm taking in. I haven't really had the energy to exercise, but I plan on starting that soon. Best of luck... Big_Ideas

I had mine the same day as you, I am down 30 total (including the 7 form the liquid diet before) Are we not supposed to hae weight control oatmeal or cheese? I am eating all kinds of things, I try soemthing new everyday. The nut had given me apaper with soft proteins and that was it. I have had triscuits with seafood salad today, 1/2 a wrap sandwhich with italian roast beef shredded cheese, a little lettuce, mayo.

Thank you for the reply, I am now down 23, but lost 31 in the 5 weeks prior to surgery. I am still on pureed foods, the NUT told me no cheese except cottage or ricotta, so I will wait until a week from this coming Wednesday when I can have solids without purrering them I really can only eat 2 - 3 tablespoons per meal. I can try bread, pasta and rice that same day. I cannot have fresh fruit/lettuce for6 months. I have heard that crabmeat is very good for us afer RNY. So far nothng has made me sick, which I am thankful for. It is not as easy as I thought, but day by day I am getting the hang of it. Good luck and thanks for writing. Michelle

Hello. I had surgery on Feb. 6. I am in the soft foods stage and Thursday will move to no restrictions but I, too, have had a tough time with figuring out what to eat. I am getting Sonic Grilled chicken wraps and eating the chicken out of those. It is very moist and 1/2 the chicken is filling. Then I eat the other half usually the next day. Cottage cheese, deli lunch meat (generally turkey), SF pudding, unsweetened applesauce, 93% diet ground beef, and tuna w/light miracle whip. Those seem to be the staples in my diet. I also made tuna helper and added the tuna at the end (I put 2oz tuna in a measuring cup and then put the mixture on top). I've had toast with hard boiled egg mixed with light miracle whip. I'm down about 30 pounds from Jan. 25 and see the Dr. on the 21st so it will be more specific then. Make sure you are drinking as much as you can (I know it's hard to eat and drink in the same day because the liquids will help flush the fat out. Feel free to look up my blog as I have chronicled my experiences so far and I list what I've eaten. Good Luck. Crystal
