swollen feet

I had my surgery on 2/27/08 and woke up this morning with puffy feet.they were a little puffy last night and I attributed this to being up and around the house more than in the hospital. Is this normal? I keep walking around the house and that seems to take some of the swelling away. I was told NO recliners after surgery due to blood clots. I almost think keeping my feet up would help the swelling. Other than that, I feel good! Dreamrider

Teresa, This hasn't happened to me, but if I were you I would definitely call my doc about it. I'm sure it's nothing, but better safe than sorry, and all that! Tracy

Well yesterday I contacted my Dr. and he was concerned. Told me to get legs ultrasounded. I did and also did EKG, XRAy, CT scan, blood work up and everything came out ok. So now what? I am pushing the walking and water. My surgery went well and all with that is healing great, Just this water retention.

Were you give TED stockings in the hospital and told to wear them for two weeks after surgery? I was -- I did not however wear them for the full two weeks but I wore them at night for a while. I used to take water pills due to swelling but haven't needed them since surgery. If all tests came back good it shouldn't be anything to worry about, I guess. Did they check your kidneys as well? GOOD LUCK!

Also watch your salt intake. Low sodium foods is good for reducing swelling. Good luck!
