Surgery 2/27 - What to take to the hospital?

Did everyone take their own PJs / clothes to change into 2nd day post-op? Or did you just wear the funky hospital gown the whole stay? Also, I was thinking about taking a book, mags, my IPOD...will I be too out of it to care about entertaining myself or should I have "stuff" with me? Any other suggestions about "do's and don'ts" on what to bring with me are greatly appreciated. I'm nervous, happy, frightened, disbelieving, hopeful, and just really FREAKED OUT!!!

Oh, MAN ... I really need the answer to this, too. I need to pack my bag tomorrow and just have NO clue what to bring. Let me in on the secrets if you learn 'em!

Hi girls, A brought in a small bag with: 1. Two pair of Sock 2. Lipbalm 3. Small Fan (portable) 4. A book (which i really didn't read) 5. 2 pijama pants (not the tops) 6. My ID and insurance card 7. Slippers (very important) 8. Antibacterial Soap (my hospital didn't have any) You won't be able to use your pijama tops because of the IV in your hand. I had my Pijama bottoms because i didn't want to be walking on the hallways with nothing on. And also I used the same clothes i came to the hospital with to go back home. One more thing, if you are used to a particular pillow, you can take that with you too. A backpack will do the trick for the 2 1/2 day you will be at the hospital. Best of luck to you both. God Bless You, Miriam

IPODs are good too. You will need to start walking the same day of your surgery, so i used my IPOD when i was walking around the hallways. Hope i helped.

The PJ bottoms is a GREAT idea. That way, robe or not, my fanny's not out in the breeze. And INSURANCE CARD/ID - I didn't even have that on my list. Thanks so much!! P.S. Did you use the portable fan at all? I do tend to "run hot."

Evelyn, I spoiled myself a little bit. I would highly suggest bringing some type of entertainment just in case. I personally do no****ch t.v., so I am bringing my laptop to play games on. My girl friend that had her surgery a few weeks back wanted hers to play with as soon as she came out of recovery. My surgery is 2/29 in San Diego, and I feel the same way as far as nerves go. We'll be fine, and feel so much better. I also bought myself two nightgowns and a robe. They suggest a robe and slippers for sure because you'll be doing laps after surgery to keept he blood flowing. That'd be really smart to bring with you. I wish you the best of luck hun.

Thank you Cari! Nerves is right. I want my anti-anxiety meds NOW!! Unfortunately I don't have a laptop, but I DO have a Nintendo DS with Sudoku, so maybe I'll bring that along. Best of luck to you, too. Let's compare notes after our day, okay?

i didn't bring a bathrobe because i knew i was going to have an IV on most of my stay. i don't see how that would be comfortable.
