Well here I am only one week away from my surgery. I'm so excited! I had my meeting w/the nutritionist to talk about my post op foods - pureed protein for a month... I know my Dr. has one of the strictest post op food guidelines.... I wonder what people's average time off work has been? I'm having laprascopic RNY and am only planning on taking a week off work.... any thoughts? Thanks, Lori

First off CONGRATULATIONS on taking this BIG step with us!!! You will think "what in world was I thinking, doing this to myself....But after you will feel like it was soooooo worth it!!! But anyways...back to topic....I had my Lap Band on Jan 30th 08...I asked for 7 - 10 days off....It only took a week and I was soooo ready to get back to work....but my boss went ahead and gave me 2 weeks...which I was glad with.... I just feel like you should really take your time with recovery if at all possible!!! Just remember to not over do anything and you will be able to realize when enough is enough! Ok so....just take care of yourself and let us know how you do...Congrats again! Jessica

But most of all, EXCITED!! Starting a new life is going to be amazing. I have also heard about 10 days as an average time off work. I can't wait! Brandi

Hi Lori, I am having the same type of surgery as you on the 25 th. My Dr. is not letting me go back for 2 months. It stinks but I think it depends on the kind of work you do and if your employer will allow light duty. I wish you the best of luck. I will hopefully talk to you again here.

I'm also 1 week away (feb 25th) and also super duper excited (with a dash of crazy nerves thrown in). My job is not physcial (i'm a computer potato)...but I also commute 45min to an hour each way via express bus (from NJ to manhattan). I'm taking 3 weeks off. What I did was go to H/R to get the short term disability paperwork & then fax it to my doctor, who filled it out & sent it back to my doctor. What is nice is that none of my time off is being counted as "sick or vacation" time - it's all being booked towards s/t disabilty at FULL PAY!
