Just over a week after surgery .... need advice

This is my first time posting so please bear with me. I had my lap band surgery on February 7th. One week before surgery I was put on slim fast and managed to lose around 5 pounds before surgery. Since the surgery I've lost 10 more pounds but my question is ---- the last day or so I've been feeling better and eating alot more --- is it normal to gain some weight at this point? I weighed myself this morning and I'm up 3 pounds. I have an appointment with the clinc this Thursday so I'm sure they will help me out but I was just wondering if anyone else had this happen.

You may need the band adjusted. They may do that for you on your appt Thursday.

That's what I've been thinking as well. I just wondered if it was unusual or not so soon after surgery. I am eating only soft foods and soups but can easily eat over a cup at a time with no problem and I often feel hungry as well.

It truly sounds like your band needs adjusted which is normal. Surgeons are not going to get the perfect fit the first time. These first couple of weeks are for your stomach and stitches to heal. I had surgery on the 7th also but I got the gastric sleeve. I was originally going to get the lap band and therefore researched it throughally. I am surprised that you said you are already eating soft foods. What has your doctor or nutritionist told you about post-op diet? I believe it is pretty similar to the sleeve post op diet. The first 2 days are clear iquids only. Then a week of full liquids, which are protien drinks, broth, pudding jello ect. The 2nd week, which is this week, should be puree food. Food that is similar in texture to baby food. The 3rd week will be soft foods and the 4th week is regular foods. Since you can eat soft foods so soon again makes me think your band is not tight enough. Keep me informed Christine

Thanks for your reply. I should correct that I am on pureed food this week not soft food. I am following the diet plan that was given to me but the problem is that I think I'm just eating too much. Hopefully they will fix the problem when I see them on Thursday. But I did read that they are not concerned about loosing weight at this stage and I just wondered if anyone else had the same thing happen to them as it sounds to me that everyone continues to loose all along. Just wondering how everyone else is doing during this stage.

Hi, I just had my lapband surgery on the 4th, so this is 14 days out. I just now get to start pureed food, and have been wondering, as you have, if I was taking too much full liquids. I have finished a full 11 oz protien shake without feeling too full, wondering if something is not right. Guess I will find out more today, when I have foods with a little more substance to them. I don't have an appointment with my do****il March 4, a full month after my surgery, so I won't know more until then. I'll be interested to hear what your doc has to say about the amount of food you should have.

Thanks for all your replies .... I'll make sure to post after my doctor's appointment on Thursday and let you know what they say! In the meantime I'm going to try to eat a little less and see what happens!

Wow, your first appt is a month after surgery? Maybe you can get an earlier appt since you have concerns about the amount of food you are able to eat. As for your 11oz of protien shake, How musch time did it take you to drink it? That is the most important key. If it took you less than 2 hrs than I would ask for an earlier appt. Remember that the surgeons do not fit the band tight during surgery. But I would think your appt would be at least 1-2 wks out from surgery and not a month. Take care
