I was just wondering if anyone else had a distance to travel to get to their sugeon. I am a little frustrated because I have my pre op appointment this Wednesday...then I have to go back on Monday for labs...and then back again on Tuesday for surgery. I had hoped they would allow me to have the labs done in the same town that I work in so that I wouldn't have to take off from work so much. This next week is even more crucial for me to be here since I am taking off 2 weeks post op. No matter how far...I am so grateful to be having this surgery!!! I am just worried if something happens and I need to be rushed back to the hospital...it's not a short little ride. That's a little scary. 1 week to GO!!!! YAY!!!!

Chrislena, I told feel your pain..lol,I too had and have to drive 3 hours to my surgeon and I too worried about the same thing BUT try not to get too worked up about it.You have to keep in mind that you are gonna be surrounded by professionals who are specialized in this and I dont know about yours but my doc kept me over night just to make sure things were going to be okay because I lived so far away.If the doctor requires you to stay most insurances will pay for it.Its by no means easy but nothing worth having or doing is! You will be fine and greatful when you finally get back to normal. And as far as the trips, the good news is that it seems to get to be alot easier once you get used to traveling it....or atleast it has with me. If I have someone with me especially it seems to pass by pretty quickly! Good luck! Ann

I traveled from northern CA to San Diego for my surgery. I stayed two weeks in a hotel, minus the few days at the hospital. I can tell you that every mile was worth it for the care that I received - the journey both fugitively and metaphorically was worth every step. Gods speed. Cindy

i also have about a two hour car ride to get there and back. fortunatly for me they let me do all my preadmission stuff in one day. so i dont have to go back til the day of surgery. i will stay over noght possibly 2 nights, one for sure. and i do worry about the long commute in case of emergency too. but they have the air lift helicopters. also there is a local hospital 15 minutes from me. i could always go there first in case of emergency. you'll be fine.

I had to travel almost 4 hours, but the upside is that on my taxes, after you reach a certain amount of income that you have used for medical expenses, you get to count your medical mileage. I think it is like 40 or 50 cents per mile!! You should check with you accountant.
