Insurance coverage for surgery
Hi, I was wondering if it is hard to get your insurance company to pay for the lapband procedure. I have trried everthing under the sun to lose weight and I just gain it back. I have back problems including surgery. My surgeon told me I needed to lose weight or I could end up having another back surgery. I had a catscan done in November and the Dr told me I need to lose weight and that I have degenerative bone disease in my back and being overweight makes it worse. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I have to set an appt to go to the lapband class. What happens after I go to the class?

Ask your questions there maybe someone can help you. I think it depends on whether your insurance includes lap band in its policy (if it even includes weight loss surgery at all). You need to contact your insurance carrier and ask them these questions because all insurances are different and have different requirements. If you don't know where to start, call you human resources department at work (personnel) and ask them for a number to contact insurance to answer some questions. You don't have to tell them why or get into it with them. Just call your insurance and get them to send the requirements IN WRITING to you so you know exactly what you need to do to get qualified. I personally was denied the first time I applied but was approved on appeal so don't give up easily. You have to be willing to persevere.
