Updates Needed!!
Hi Folks,
I had my lap RNY on Feb. 22nd and am down 30.5 lbs. For those of you who think you have not lost enough or too slowly just think of me! I am trying not to get discouraged but it is very frustrating when I see those of you who are down 40-50 lbs. or more and still complaining. I do not eat more than 4 oz. per meal, I get at least 60 grams of protein and drink at least 6-8 glasses of liquid. I have transferred water to tea and that is how I am coping with the water intake. I walk at least 5-6 days, 1.25 miles. I am hoping to increase that but I usually have to stop because I get cramps in my legs.
Yup!! I am right with you too!! I'm a "SLOW" loser it seems! I had my WLS on 2/28 and have lost 36.5 lbs since then. I had a stall for about a MONTH where the scale did not budge a bit. I was losing inches though because it was during that time when folks began to see and notice that I was getting smaller. But after the stall, I lost 6.5 lbs and it looks like I'm headed toward stall number 2!!
I too amd trying really hard not to be discouraged. Especially when I hear people complaining that they lost 70 lbs in the same time that I've lost only half that much. But I am grateful that I have had NO complications and I'm feeling really good.
My goals for next month are to increase my exercise and daily intake of protein. Maybe that will get the scale moving in the right direction!!
Hey Angela:
I feel your pain! I know it is really hard emotionally when we are all doing the work, but the results are a little slower than we expected! I am right there with you.
However, I am sorry that you were discouraged by what you felt was my "complaining" about my 70 pound weight loss. I never ment to discourage you. I was looking for support just like you were.
You see, I started out at 420 lbs., and my surgeon is expecting 100 pounds lost at my 3 month check up. The more you weigh, the more you are supposed to loose, and quicker (in the surgeon's opinion), during the 6 month (honeymoon) period. He informed me that after the six months, it MAY be more difficult, so he wants me to really take advantage of the first six months, and get the most off as I can. To date, I have lost 73 pounds, and I only have 12 more days left until my appointment. I am 27 pounds behind in his goal, and I am worried about facing him.
In the meantime, I am doing everything he says, eating everything he says, and nothing more, and exercising as much as possible . . (read my first post). The weight will come off in its own time. I just have to realize that and be content.
Again . . . sorry to offend those of you I ticked off, and I will look forward to hearing your success stories on this page, hopefully. I wish you the best and slimmer days!
Terri
Hiya Terri ---
I am right there with you - my surgeon expects 90-100 pound loss by the 3 month mark - but like you, I started out with a pretty high weight - 390!! I'm 5'6". I am close to his lower goal - I am down 82 pounds but my appointment with him is 05/31!!!! AGH! But - while I do feel for those you may have offended...I sometimes get jealous of those that "only" (and no, I am not implying that it is in any way easier for those!) need to loose a 100-150! I have 240 to loose to get to goal!!!! So - like you said - with more weight you have to loose, the more quickly you can loose in the begining!!!
Hello everyone....I had my suregery on February 13th and I'm down 43lbs so far. I feel like I'm loosing the weight very slow compared to others as well. I still struggle with the foods I can eat. Some days I can eat chicken and then other days I can't. What is everyone doing for their protein?? I was drinking the protein shakes but they are getting old. I love the way I'm starting to look and I love having people tell me how great I look and ask what my weight loss secret is. I'm down 2 sizes in clothes but I see it most in my shirts...they are really loose on me now. I only have 2 pairs of pants that fit right now and all the others are way to big. I started at 258lbs and I'm down to 214lbs.....almost to my goal of being below 200lbs. My doctor would like me to be at 200lbs by my next appointment in June, this shouldn't be any problem. I'm glad I found this message board and hope to hear from everyone again. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK EVERYONE!!!!
MARIE
Glad to see some updates I have wandered to other boards because ours is so boring some days.
Anyway I will be at 12 weeks on Wednesday- I had surgery 2/7- and have lost 60 lbs as of this morning, so including the 18 I lost since starting my program in November that is 78lbs. !!!!
I am glad to hear that everyone is doing well and sorry if you are not happy with the speed it is coming off. I know this isn't much but remember how long it took to put it on and how long you carried it. I was in the area of 300lbs for years. I can't remember when I weighed what I weigh now it had to be like 10yrs ago. So to go down even 30lbs in 3 months is huge.
Remember how strong you are to have taken on this journey and remember it will come off and your life will be new again.
Keep Smiling-
Jennifer
Hi Everyone!
Glad to see some movement on the board!
I am almost 10 weeks our (Feb 20th) and I guess I am on the slow loosers bench. I am just 40 lbs down. I think for those of us that are frusturated we need to look ar how much we need to loose I have been told the more you need to loose the more you loose in the first 6 months. I started at 235 and have entered ONEderland which is a big accomplishment for me thought I would love to have lost more my now!
I had a 2 week stall and am having a hell of a time keeping things down. It seems it is more the last 2 - 3 weeks as I tried introducing new foods I'll eat it one day and it will be fine then the next time I eat it it comes up. If it was not for the 2 protien shakes a day I would be in trouble! I am actuall at a conference all this week in Washington DC (hotel conferences are all about eating & drinking -- which I cant do!) This is my first real test. I sent a case of Achiev One Coffee Drinks here (20g Protien 5g Carb 0g Fat 120 Cal) so that I could drink 2 - 3 a day while everyone is snacking on junk. They are nice because they look like little Starbucks Drinks so I dont get all the questions.
Let's keep this board going and good luck to all!
Lisa
Hi all!
I think I may be on the only one here with a VSG (vertical sleeve gastrectomy)...and I do hang out on that forum mostly. Anyhow my surgery was Feb 19(10 weeks out now) and I have lost 66lbs so far. I started out at 390 now at 324. I am so excited to be nearing twoterville! I lost a huge amount of weight in the first month though...50lbs. The past six weeks I am losing either 2lbs or 3lbs a week. That is just fine with me as long as it keeps moving down!
I am able to eat all meats that I have tried so far and had nothing come back up. So I am happy about that. One night I ate to much taco meat and that made me pretty uncomfy for about an hour. The most solid food I can eat at a given time is about 2.6oz. I have stuck with mostly protein but can work in All Bran Crackers, Mission low carb tortilla and Flat out bread in there some days. I love some chicken, cheese and ranch dressing in the Mission tortilla and the Flat out bread make a nice crust for some pizza. I still do one or two protein shakes a day too. I guess my biggest problem is eating slowly.
I am so happy with my surgery and hope that things continue to go down. One of my goals it to get into a pair of blue jeans again and out of the stretchy pants!
Well my best to all of you!
Cathy
Hi Shelley and everyone,
My 3 month mark is tomorrow; I have only lost 38 lbs since my RNY. I lost 27 before surgery. I am wondering why some of us seem to be much slower than others with the weight loss. I have been exercising like Rocky in trainning..LOL.. I do the treadmill, exercise bike, walking and now the stretch resistance bands. I do all this at least 5-6 days a week! I eat about a 1/2 cup of food at a meal; always focas on protein first. I drink liquid protein, I know I don't get in quite enough water. It is very frustrating to say the least. My hubby says I should be happy with my total loss of 65 lbs. since december. He said what is the big deal. I said he doesn't understand the whole concept; and the sacarfices I have made. He thinks it is all about looking good; no it is the struggle that I have been dealing with most of my life. Anyway I will keep pushing on; and right now I have been at a platuea for almost a month! Is a half of a cup of food to much? I am not eating sugar, junk food; or anything unhealthy! Just wanting to know if I am normal; and why others seem so far ahead of me. Sincerely, Judy R.
