Scared to eat meat

I am one month post op and on a solid diet. My sister and I had the RNY surgery on the same day and she has been trying a lot of meat cause she doesnt like the shakes. I have been making chocolate protien shakes out of the whey protien I found at Wal-mart. I get in 69 grams of protien just from that and then more from the 2% milk. after she eats meat, she has been and I dont want to. I find that I have anxiety and totally avoid meat. I do fine with ground meat like in chili or the famous Hamburger Helper but as far as steak, pork and chicken, I have heard so many horror stories I'm freaked out. Is anyone else having issues with meat? I need more input, help! Oh yeah, one more thing...has anyone tried to have alchohol yet?

Hi...I'm a little over 5 weeks out and I haven't had any problems with meat yet. I've tried chicken and pork. And just this last weekend I had a very small piece of london broil steak. I've also had turkey jerky which is very tender and goes down really good. Now remember of course all these meats are very small bites and pieces. I know that everyone is different though ..but I guess you'll just have to try to find out..it might be better if your at home when you do. Good luck! Jennifer

First, congrats to you and your sis! I have tried meat, from chili and fish, to jerky and a few bites of steak. The rarer and leaner the meat, the better my stomach feels after. I love jerky when it's soft and thin! I think you just have to fix it the way you like it best and go with it. I still use the protein shakes with soy milk every day, so when I do eat, its usually just one meal. And yes, I've tried alcohol. I drank about a quarter of a "sex on the beach" and was tipsy. Good grief! This coming from the woman who could put away several mixed drinks and not "feel" a thing! Good luck! Kat

Turkey,fish/seafood works best for my VSG...chicken is too dry, lots of foam and upchucking. The booze has tons of sugar in i****ch out!

Hi Ben, I was feeling just like you. I tried some meat about 3 weeks out and I got a blockage that took about 8 hours to pass and I was in so much pain and so sick, that I did not want to try it again. I tried meat once again about 10 days ago...just took a small bite but it did not feel right so I quit....I was feeling like I was never going to get to eat meat and actually feeling a little down about it. Then about 3 days ago, I ate a couple small pieces of chicken in a salad and it worked so the next night I cut some meat off of some chicken wings that my husband was eating and did fine...so, tonight I made myself 1 chicken breast, cooked it only long enough to be cooked (not dried out) with some great seasonings and I was able to eat 1/2 of it before I felt full...no problems at all. Everyone kept telling me to just keep trying every week or two until your body agrees and that I would get there... and they were right...I feel very good now and not so stressed out about my food. Just go very slow and only try one bite and wait about 5 minutes to see if it goes down before continuing. Good luck! Mariam
