Wooohooo!!!!
Hi everyone!
I am 4 weeks post-op and have been on liquid only (3 shakes and water) for a total of 6 weeks! I have not had ANY food for 6 weeks!!! Anyway, tomorrow (weather permitting - we are in the middle of a blizzard in MN) I am seeing my doc and he is going to give me some foods to introduce. WOOOHOOO! He told me at my last visit that the liquid only part was the easy part. Eating food is the tough part and I guess I have not been sick at all other than a little nausea that I attributed to needing a bm.
Does anyone else out there have to follow this liquid menu or am I the only one who's doc said no food? Not complaining, just curious!
Shelley
First of all - WE SHARE A NAME - Weird to see it posted on here!
Secondly, I can't believe you had to go on liquids so long! You are a very very patient soul! I know you must be excited to get to some "real" food. I know when I got to pureed food my options seemed to open immensley! Good luck getting to your doc and enjoy!!

No way, Shelley Johnson! What a great name huh. I doubt we have the same middle names though, mine is a bit odd (Ione).
Wouldn't you know, my Doc cancelled my appt today because of the snowstorm and now I go in on Monday. That means 3 EXTRA days on liquid only! I am lucky I am not hungry at this stage.

Liquids for 4 weeks? I've never heard or read of that. Did you have open? I had to go liquid for 2 weeks prior and one week following. According to the plan my Doc gave me, I should be able to start "full" liquid (more solid soups, yogurt, etc) next week. I have an appt on Monday. Question: how long did the soreness (front/back) hang around?
Hi Shelley, Congratulations, especially on making it so long with liquids Every doctor is completely different and none of them are wrong, just different. My doctor, who has done about 300 RNY, with no leaks (which I was so scared of) has 3 stages of food,
1st stage clear liquids for the day before, day off and day after (if you are doing well of course),
2nd stage which is full liquids (soups, hot cereal, pudding, etc) when home from hospital, and
3rd stage, soft diet (tuna, thin deli meats, eggs, refried beans, all vegies mashed, some fruits, crispy crackers or crispy credsticks if chewed well, etc..) after 10 days...again if you are doing good. No matter what you still have to chew very well and take your time as you introduce everything. I have not gotten sick on anything but I am full quick and it takes me about 30-40minutes to eat..I go very slow...kind of scared. ))
Anyway, enjoy food again...in a very healthy way!

I did soley liquids for 2 weeks and when I finally started eating, rather sipping soups, it took me so long to get some of it down that I would have to continually microwave my bowl of soup cuz it kept going cold on me. I think the first soup I ate was diluted chicken noodle minus the lil chicken pieces. The broth and a small amount of noodles took me near an hour and I think it was the first time I ate a 1/2 a can of soup and was to full to finish the rest. Kinda funny. Let us know what kind of foods you get to try. One of my now favs is mashed potatos and gravy from KFC
Good Luck and remember sip sip sip and chew chew chew
