Hello everyone! I had surgery on Feb 2, 2007 and had felt really great until last night when I started feeling nauseous. I am still on liquids only (3 boost's per day and water) so it isn't anything I have eaten. At first I though I just need to have a BM, but today I am still sick to my stomach. Any insight on why? Is this common?? Thank You in Advance, Shelley

Shelly, Sorry I can't tell you why. I just wanted to tell you that you are not alone. My surgery was Feb. 5th and I stay nauseaed. But I think mine does have some to do with a BM. I've only went once since the surgery and I had to be addmitted to the hospital for that. I do know by reading the boards that nausea is a big part of this surgery. The doctor told me it could last for up to 6 months. Yeah I know it wasn't something I wanted to hear either. Anyway just wanted to say I hope you get to feeling better. I pray to God everyday to feel normal again. Charlotte

Shelley, I was having a lot of problems with nausea as well, and my nurse told me that it can be a sign of dehydration. They wrote me a Rx for phenergan to help, and told me to make sure I was getting at least 80 oz of water/day. That's just a HUGE amount, because I can't "chug" a glass of water like I used to. So, I keep a water bottle by my side and sip ALL day long. It really has helped. I've only had to take the phenergan 3 times. She said that everyone has to get in at least 64 oz, but since I'm still nursing my just-turned-1 year old, I need to get an extra 16 oz to replace what he's taking. Hope that helps, Rae

You don't have anything to make a BM. You might get a teaspoon or two of the fiber that mixes in water, is not gritty and is tasteless and see if that helps any. i've been using it and it does help. Jacquie

Hey there!! I feel your pain!!! Maybe try some warm fluids? Check out my long post. I had something similar today and warm fluids seems to be working for me now.

You're still on liquids? I thought my doc was strict! I only had 1 week of clear and 1 week of full liquids. I also had surgery Feb 5th and have recently had problems with nausea after I eat. I find that if I eat really slow it helps a lot. Also if you feel really bad try lying on your left side and it usually passes pretty quickly. I agree with the warm fluids, I don't do well with really cold water.

Boost is loaded with sugar and carbohydrates (45 grams?). You may want to switch to a protein drink that has fewer carbs and sugars.

Well I am happy to say that my nausea is over. Thanks for all the advice. Yes, I am finishing my 4th post-op week of liquid-only diet. My doc has me drinking 3 cans of High Protein Slimfast or High Protein Boost and 64 ounces of water and that is it (less than 600 calories per day). So why isn't the weight just falling off of me????? The two are the only choices the nut gave me. What other high protein drinks do you all recommend?? Thanks! Shelley Johnson RNY 2-2-07
