Liquid Diet????
Hey all,
I have to say that reading all of your questions and answers and hearing your support makes me truly thrilled to be a part of this wonderful group. On to my question. My Doctor requires a two week liquid protein diet. Has anyone else had to do this? I see a lot of you have had to do what looks to be a cleanse and I don't have to do that. Any thoughts on how to make these two weeks go by faster. My surgery is the 28th, please keep your fingers crossed and keep me in your prayers. I was also thinking about the pain meds.....I am alergic to morphine and codiene what will they give me in my drip afterwards? Have any of you had your surgery at Chapman? I know tons and tons of questions...But I am really really getting nervous...
Yeah I have been on the liquid now for ever it seems. My surgery was set for the 5th and so I had been on a liquid diet prior to that and then on the 30th of Jan they had a snag with my insurance so surgery was set up for the 14th of this month. I had 4 days I could eat then would have to go back on it. SO I just stayed with it. The first 3 days were hard but really after that not so bad. I have lost close to 15 pounds being on it. Besides it strinks your liver and with that smaller it wont hurt so much since they have to go under it to do the surgery. I have been drinking alot of water, broth, jello, and the instant breakfasts drinks. I mix in some whey protien as well...just not loving the taste of that. It will go by fast....good luck
Hi Jaime- I am required to be on a liquid diet for 1 wk prior to surgery. I started it on Friday, officially. I really started it the prior week (2 of 3 meals a day) to get my body and MIND ready. It was easier than I thought. Today is day 4 and I am NOT hungry I feel like my stomach is tiny!! I am drinking Unjury protein drink in the morning and eating soup for lunch and dinner (mix up the flavors so u dont get bored). I did crush 1 saltine cracker in tomato soup on saturday.....oops! I bought a lot of drink mix packets for my bottled water, in different flavors too. It is truly mental...keep yourself busy and it will be easier to deal with. Good luck to you...and pray for me Friday the 16th, as you are in my prayers!!!
What everyone else is saying is true. By the third day it's not so bad. It's mostly a mental thing. My hardest part was at night with my family, I wanted to kill them when they would eat in front of me. No respect!!! But yeah they say it shrinks your liver to make the surgey easier and you have so much fluid in the hospital you can gain weight from that. So this way you don't get discouraged. I found that out the hard way. I was walking the halls and seen a scale so I weighed, I weighed more then the day I came in for the surgery and I hadn't had anything to eat for three days. But now that I'm home and the fluid(swelling) is gone it's better. As for the meds; I'm allergic to all those too. I don't remember what they gave me but it was good stuff too. But I did have to keep asking what are you giving me, because a few times they tried to give me things I was allergic too. Even know it clearly said not too on my wrist and chart. So always ask what they are giving you before you let them inject it or take it. Of course I was at Vandy in Nashville. But it's still a good ideal when your allergic. Good Luck and see you on the losers bench!

Thanks so much for the kind responses. It is so great to be in a place where everyone can truly relate. My diet starts on Thursday the 15th. Wish me luck!!!! I was thinking of starting on Wed the 14th just so that three day hump is past me by the weekend. What do you think?????? Thanks again for your help!!!
I'm day 2 of the liquid diet. They have us do slimfast 5 cans. I thought I was going to die, yesterday... It was better, today. I'm trying to not think about food so much and my office mates have been helpful. One is eating out of the office the other is doing the slimfast WITH me... (how great is THAT!?) It was hard when I got home last night and had to feed my toddler. I made her some mac and cheese and wanted a bite so bad. ggrrrr... oh well... I keep telling myself 'nothing tastes as good as thin feels'. I'm there with you. My surgery date is 02.26.2007.
Hi, I haven't been on the site for a couple of weeks (between wor, mid-terms (46 & starting college isn't easy!) & taking care of grandkids). I'm on my 6th day of the liquid. It is a lot easier than I thought! I have to agree with the others....not so bad after the first 2-3 days. Mostly a mental thing, I think, when you walk by snacks and stuff. No real hunger pains like I was afraid of. I bought the stuff off of bariatric eating.com (Dymatize Choc Mint Elite tastes like chocolate mouthwash ) and some at WalMart (Body Fortress 100% Whey Protein-Choc). Can't tell much difference in the composition but I like the taste of the WalMart stuff better (and it is cheaper) . I'm scheduled for the 27th.....10 more days!! There are a lot of emotions swirling around (fear, nervousness, excitement, etc...etc...etc...). Best of luck to all Feb WLS members.
