Surgery on the 12th & cheating on liquid diet
My surgery is scheduled for the 12th of this month so I'm supposed to be doing the liquid diet but I keep cheating. I almost had this done a year ago and that doctor did not require 2 weeks of a liquid diet prior to surgery so I think I'm using that as an excuse. Hell if I could go 2 weeks on a liquid diet I wouldn't need this surgery right? Tell me I'm not the only cheater please!
OH absolutely not- My doctor does not require a liquid diet but a healthy one so my liver is not too fatty. I am not crazy out of control but I keep slipping as it gets closer and I keep thinking of things I can't eat.
My surgery is Wednesday so my panic is kicking in now. I agree if you could diet perfectly you wouldn't need the help of surgery. Don't beat yourself up just do the best you can.
Remember to keep a positive attitude that is your best defense right now.
Good Luck,
Jennifer
The two week liquid diet is really important...Your surgeon wouldn't have told you to do it - if it wasn't. Before surgery I would completely agree with you about this statement "if i could go 2 weeks on a liquid diet I wouldn't need this surgery..." but in the long run this is about making healthy changes in our eating habits.. We all struggle (even as a post op; I am right now actually)- just be careful!!
More than likely this is to shrink your liver.. Plus you will lose a few pounds before surgery. If you absolutely feel like you're going to be ill from not eating, I would eat something like Tuna or a protein shake. It seems some people have to do that optifast diet before.
I, like you had, to do two weeks and It was rough. I lost 21lbs though.. So I can't complain too much.
Good Luck on your surgery

I just started my liquid diet today. It is more to shrink the liver and make it easier for the docs to do there job. I know I won't be perfect..but I am gonna try and stick with it the best I can. If I feel I need something more...I will look for low fat protein choices to fill in. But the plus is you start loosing weight now and less to lose later!

Cathy
I'm supposed to do a "healthy diet" for my pre-op with one of each protein, veggie, and fruit at my 3 meals a day and no snacking...some days I'm right on, others I can't do it! Like you said, if i could follow this, i wouldn't need surgery. I think a liquid diet would be easier than actual food for me. Maybe i should do just protein drinks.
My doctor has me on a no starch diet. I also can't have red meat or any leafy veggies. So i am screwed!!!! I feel like if i can't stick to this than how am i going to stick to the after surgery stuff.. I am also having the worst cravings ever. I want chocolate and Pizza. I am not gonna do it though, and my husband wont let me.. THANK GOD!!!!
Good luck and just do the best you can.
Hey everyone! April, I'm totally going through the 'I want pizza and chocolate' thing too....and thinking 'How can I do this post op if I can't pre op?' But the whole craving/binging thing is why we have problems with losing weight and keeping it off, Right? So I think/hope we all will do fine, because we won't be able to eat as much of the junk that's being craved after surgery.
Good LUck!
Hi - my surgery is the 12th too. Good Luck.
I cant speak to the liquid diet but I haven t been very good the last few days either. I am supposed to be eating right - I lost the wieght that my doc wanted me to lose but I too have been thinking about what I'll not be able to eat and trying for that last taste. Its hard but I know after surgery there will be renewed dedication to the process - in part cause you behave or you pay the price!
