My date is 27 Feb at Scott & White hospital in Temple, TX. Does anybody have good ideas for clear protein for the two week prior? I'm going to try the one that was posted (chicken). Anything quick to buy to take to work?

Welcome Donna and congrats on your date! I think Isopure is a clear liquid protein source..but would have to research my notes... I'll get back to you on that one. Again Congrats! Shelley

Hi Donna: My RNY is scheduled for 23 Feb at DePaul in Bridgeton, Missouri. I live in Illinois. My physician recommended carnation instant breakfast with "double milk" Double milk recipe is 1 cup skim milk and 1/3 cup of non fat dry milk. Mix all together. One "shake" gives you 21gms of protein. He recommends minimum of 5 per day. I didn't see the (chicken). Where was that posted? Good luck and welcome to the board. Cathy

Good morning Cathy, Thanks for the shake recipe. The chicken was posted a couple of days ago. Basically it was to get a really high protein chicken broth. Simmer 4 chickens, a whole onion, and a couple of carrots in enough water to cover for at least three hours. I'll try to locate the actual recipe for you. I received my actual break-down of the pre-op appointments (12 Feb) yesterday. My stomach immediately felt like a massive swarm of butterflies were taking off! It's going to be a rough 6 weeks!!

My surgery is scheduled for 2/27 too! I find it interesting that my surgeon has not said anything yet about the liquid diet two weeks before surgery, however, I have an appointment next week which is my last before surgery. So I might get the info then. I am soooooo excited and nervous and tired of hearing about why I shouldn't have the surgery! I cannot wait for that day! :-)

Hi Vanessa, Congrats on your surgery date!! I've read that some surgeons don't require the 2-week liquid protein diet. I know it is going to be hard but....if it will help to shrink my liver out of the way to make the surgery easier & safer--I'm all for it!! I don't have a lot of folks saying "don't have it".....they just comment about not looking wrinkled, saggy, or pale. I figure if I have a lot of loose skin, I'll give myself an early 50th birthday present and have plastic surgery! As we have the same date, perhaps we can keep in touch?

I would love to!. I think I wil also do the liquid diet two weeks prior even if he doesn't suggest it. I think getting into the habit will be better than being shocked afterwards.

That is my train of thought also. It is harder than you would think. I've never been on a "liquid protein" diet before. Maybe I'm just not drinking enough of it but......I get so hungry! I haven't made it thru a whole day yet but have 3 weeks to go before it is the real thing! I'm going to make the chicken broth protein drink this weekend and freeze some of it. I have chocolate stuff for the mornings and got a couple of samples from bariatriceating.com to try. Will order some others from there and also plan to visit GNC to see what they have. I tried to add you to my "friends" group but don't know if it worked. If you get the invite multiple times....SORRY....that is just user error...not a computer glitch.

I've been drinking this in the mornings for the past week, except that I'm using a chocolate protein powder instead of the instant breakfast. It is pretty good.
