Topic: November weigh in
Don't forget to send it to me, or post it - for the stats chart. I will be posting the chart this month on my profile. Today I weighed in at 198 - finally under 200lbs. Now that I've hit this milestone, I am petrified of the next goal. I would like to be at goal weight by February 15, 2007, my surgiversary [my goal is 155 *I think* because I have a super-duper amount of extra skin]. I just want to get my big hernia fixed already, and I dream of having the fat apron gone. SIGH. I can do it! xosm

Water and protein were my focus in FitDay too, in fact, it's sort of hard to shake my compulsiveness in getting in protein and fluids. But, yeah, it's another animal entirely to focus on eating foods that are low points. I'm still trying to find a balance between low points and not enough points. I hope it went great, Terri! xosm

Has anyone told ya yet today that you are the bestest of the best ? At first I thought that I could just do it all on my own, drag out my materials and get back to following a realistic program. BUT I think that the support may be the most important thing for me right now. Everyone in my life has been nothing but wonderful and supportive but I do think that finding people who are "in the same place" can be a huge help. I rely on you guys a ton but think that a real committment to a weekly meeting and scale hop may be what i need. I was doing fitday... Carefully entering EVERYTHING I ate... But did I ever read it ? Heck no... No one explained to me that since I was taking the time to do the research that I should bother to read and react to what it was saying ! Water and protein was all that mattered in my little fitday world. (Sick woman that I was !) I have a super great friend who goes to a meeting locally and she said that one of the speakers there is amazingly easy to get along with, always willing to help out or make suggestions and imagine this..... HAS A PERSONALITY ! So I am gonna get my smaller but still big butt over there and see what is going on tomorrow night. Thanks so much for your words... Meant a million to me.. I'll keep ya posted on how things go ! -Terri

Hi Terri-I know that there are many different opinions on dieting after WLS...but I still try all kinds of different things....and when I really feel like I need a "butt kicking" I will do Atkins for a day or two. My loss has been SLOW since about five months out...going months sometimes without loss or the same 5 pounds...but when I got REALLY fed up I did Atkins and dropped weight fast that I didn't gain back. If I am being "good" I go between that and counting cals trying to have about 1200-1500 a day. I'd like to get out of the diet mentality...but I don't that'll ever happen...LOL I am thinking of doing a butt kick Atkins AFTER Halloween...LOL SW 230 HS CW 130 HS GW 120 HS HS=home scale which is 8 pounds under a doc's

I am so glad to hear from you! I think that you will make century club for sure. I know you will. I think a lot of us are going thru the same think right now. I am even thinking of going to see my doctor and telling him the restrictive aspect of my surgery isn't there! But I know he won't take me seriously. I have been having horrible binges too. Like eating Halloween candy and chips and sugar cookies, a lot of it too. That scares me to death. I ate a whole taco salad the other night WITH the shell -am I spelling shell right?-brain fart...it weighed over a pound and had 800 cals...how can I eat that??? I hope my troubles help you feel better!!! I know when I see that others are having struggles too I don't feel so alone. Hang in there, we are all here for you and in this together.

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !! First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking. As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this. We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank koolade made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because . WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING ! We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms....... WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them! We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever. We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them! Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever! The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL! If YOU are one of them . . . CONGRATULATIONS! You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were. Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!
