Me:
Type of surgery?
lap to Open RNY
Complications?
My large incision opened at week 2 and was about 3 inches deep, about a month later some of it closed prematurely and it had to be opened up more to about 4-5 inches deep. It's being rinsed and packed daily by a visiting nurse and is now 3 inches deep and much smaller on top.
Eating OK?
yes
Digesting OK [gas, heartburn, vomiting, dumping]?
no problems, the occasional hiccup - I'm kinda surprised I don't have gas
Voiding OK?
hard stools, but they are regular [daily]
Fatigue [or do you have an increase in energy]?
Still have a lot of fatigue!!
Dry skin?
My skin is much drier [I used to have very oily skin, now it's more normal]. My nails have been breaking lately, which is unusual for me.
Hair loss?
not yet
I thought of more:
Depression/mood swings?
I have some depression over my rate of recovery, some sadness that I am not losing faster, am really bummed that I don't feel more energetic ... haven't had mood swings like I thought I would [someone told me that estrogen is stored in fat cells and that losing weight fast is like having PMS all of the time, which I don't think I am experiencing - although I never really had PMS so I'm not totally sure]. I see a therapist weekly to work on me, but I don't feel depressed in a way that I need medical intervention, more like BORED that my recovery and weight loss aren't moving faster.
Life changes?
My b/p meds are halved.
I have no signs of diabetes, blood work is fine, no dizzyness or headaches.
No more GERD meds.
I was sleeping better, save for the past week or so.
I'm not getting any sex because of the wound issues [ick, oozing wound does not equal romance!]
My seat belt fits without a struggle!
I can wipe my butt without a struggle!
I fit into some old bras and panties I bought that were too small.
Are you feeling any hunger? Can you tell if it's emotional or physical?
This past week I feel hungry. I think it's a good part emotional, because if I'm too busy to think about it, I don't. But this is the first time since surgery that I've actually WANTED to eat. I'm getting the munchies again at night which is BAAAAAD.

1. Lap RNY
2. No complications
3. Eating has not been a problem, I can eat whatever I want, I haven't dumped, but I did vomit 3 times because I ate too fast and it hurt too much so I had to get rid of it.
4. Never had gas, no heartburn, vomited 3 times, no dumping
5. It's a little slow, like every 3-4 days and I also take a stool softener maybe once or twice a week just to help
6. I was really fatigued the first month then I got some energy but last week I started feeling tired again. I think it was a combination of being on my period, not getting in enough protein and not drinking enough water or fluids. But I did up my protein and I'm feeling much better.
7. No dry skin
8. No hair loss
All in all I'm feeling great, it's been 2 1/2 months and I've lost 52lbs...can't beat that

Digesting OK [gas, heartburn, vomiting, dumping]? I have dumped twice, vomited 3-4 times, gas all the time!, no heartburn
Voiding OK? not like pre-op, but ok. wi**** were a little more regular.
Fatigue [or do you have an increase in energy]? much more fatigue than pre-op some days are really good, but I have always been a very active obese person
Dry skin? yes, oily pre-op and now dry patches on my face
Hair loss? not any as of yet, thank goodness!!
I have had upper back pain, between shoulder blades, often post-op. I was surprised since I am obviously carrying around less weight.
Overall: This has been the easiest "diet" I have ever done! I am disappointed in my slow weight loss, but cosidering I do not feel any deprivation I am satisfied with the results.
