I had surgery on the 11th and haven't had any issues yet (hopefully never!). Doctor had me eat nothing but jello, broth and water for 2 weeks. Monday, I ate half an egg. Since then, I've eaten some FF cottage cheese, low carb yogurt, string cheese, mini babybel, and 2 oz Boar's Head deli sliced chicken. I also tried some diluted Crystal Lite iced tea and that's making it so much easier to get my 10 glasses in a day. My doc said to keep carbs under 10g per meal. I'm definately not getting in enough protein or vitamins. The protein shakes I've bought are gross. Do you guys feel full? How do you know when you've eaten too much in a meal? I haven't found the 'full' butten yet and I'm afraid to pu**** in case it's not there. I've just been sticking to 4oz of soft food (cottage cheese, yogurt) and 2oz of solid food (like hard cheese or chicken).

I am 3 1/2 weeks out: Staples are low fat Kuhner's refried black beans, Bob Evans cheesey mash potatoes, Shelton's chicken chili, very lean and tasty, get the spicey kind. Eggs do not agree with me, too bad about that. Tried cottage cheese, but it didn't taste right but I used to like it. Protein shakes, of course. Banana if chewed well. Canned chicken and tuna work well if blended with something. Cream of wheat got stuck but maybe I made it too thick, could try that again. At 3 days out I ate ONLY pureed stuff.

I am eating bananas, peanut butter, HB eggs, egg salad, salmon (YUM!), cottage cheese, softened cheese, and *evil* chopped liver. Also baby food no sugar added fruits. I just take it easy and try one new thing at a time. So far every thing goes in fine, but everything except liquids and salmon makes me quesy for an hour. Ew.

I had my surgery on the 17th and my doctor has me pretty much on clear liquids still. I can have Cream of Wheat and creamed soups strained but otherwise it's just Propel, jello, Crystal Lite, and chicken broth. I snuck in some soda crackers with my chicken broth but the nutritionist said no solids yet so I won't do that again. I start the protein drinks in a couple of days. I am looking forward to the soft diet which I can start in May. Zoe

I had my surgery on April 17th. I am eating chicken, catfish, salmon, tuna, eggs, cheese, watermelon, cantelope, apples, strawberries with sugar free cool whip, sugar free koolaid is about the only drink i can stand right now, besides the water that I HATE to drink, but I must. I'm taking 2 flintstone chewable vitamins every morning. I can also eat rice, pasta, potatoes and crackers (but i MIGHT do a teaspoon or 2 of that a day if i'm craving carbss). Really, i'm obsessed with watermelon, LOL. It is soooooooooooooo refreshing! Oh! I also had squash for dinner with my fish tonight and it is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good!

I am so jealous of you'll who can eat food already. My dr. requires liquids for 3 weeks. I'm drinking 3 protein shakes a day (Choc. not bad at all if you mix it with a little SF chocolate syrup, water and an equal with ice in the blender) and a cup of strained soup a day. I'm not hungry... I just want to chew something with texture. Vicki G.

My surgery was Apr 18th so I'm just a little over a week out right now. My doctor wants his patients on a full fluid diet for two weeks then if everything is ok they can go to solids. Full fluids to their standards includes things such as pudding, jello, hot cereal ie cream of wheat, oatmeal, broths, creamed soups, popsicles, (all SF of course). At first all I wanted was ice chips so the popsicles were great. I've now figured to freeze my water bottles and drink as they melt - think I might be getting a little more water in this way not sure. Everything has been going down ok other than the other night I wanted mashed potatoe so bad that I said if I mix it really thin it would be like potatoe soup - guess I didn't mix it thin enough or something in it maybe butter didn't agree - I think I had my first kinda dumping thing - I got all hot and sweaty and my tummy ached so bad. I lay down for a while and it passed - funny my girls are going "Told you so" to me so now I've told them if they see me wanting something I shouldn't yet just say potatoes and I'll remember LOL. Hopefully I will start solids next week and am longing for some eggs and a little chicken and tuna which I'm hoping will go down ok since tuna is high in protein. My dietician doesn't push the protein powder actually says not to use unless there's a medical reason to - each person is different. They want you to try to get as much as possible naturally - lots of milk and yogurt, etc when on fluids. We are told when we start solids to try one new food a day to see how it goes. I do that with everthing pretty much. A few little bites wait see if I'm ok then go for it. So just follow what your doc says - they have a plan for us. I hope your nausea has settled down - for me that feeling came when I got dried out in the mouth - really needed the ice chips. It has passed now and I can go all night without having to have something - but couldn't go hardly a few hours without it at first - guess its how your body is dried out after surgery. Take care - happy experimenting. Carolyn

Try pureeing a can of chicken chunks (like the can tuna) and measure out 2 ounces of the pureed chicken and 1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese, puree together with a dash of garlic/pepper...comes out like a chicken salad spread. 27 grams of protein total. I guess it agrees with my tummy because the chicken in the can is soooo soft compared to boiling it and pureeing, that did not agree with my tummy at all! Good luck! Aloha, Kris

I had my Lap RNY on 4/18/06, I started out with the liguids for 2 days, then went onto soft mushy foods. The Dr. wants us (my husband and I) on pureed for a month, but I have already tried tuna fish, flounder, real foods, just have to chew and chew real well. So far So good

I am 24 days post-op and am on a pureed diet until next Tuesday. I have been eating mac and cheese, eggs (the egg beater flavored kind), beefaroni, ham and red meat really really well chewed, soup, sugar free rice pudding, sugar free pudding, sugar free popsicles, chili, mashed potatoes, and some really well cooked vegies.
