How many strictures?
I had an upper gi last Thursday and it said I have a "slight" narrowing of the opening between pouch and intestine. My doc won't be in for a week, to look at the results and decide if he wants to send me to have it opened up. A week before I went from soft foods to regular foods, per my dietician. I was already having problems with chicken, sweet potatoes, and something else which escapes me at the moment, but she said I could move on, so I did. All of the denser food kept comming back up so when I saw my doc on 4-5-6 I told him and he ordered the upper gi. I just don't understand why he ordered a test when there wasn't going to be anyone who could act on it. Grrrr. I'll live, but it sucks being on liquids and puree again. I guess it'll jump start my weightloss????? Oh well. I knew this could be a complication. I'll be happy when it's taken care of. I even tried to eat the things I ate before on the soft diet, but they give me pain now, and act like they want to come up. The bariatric coordinator said that if I end up not able to keep fluids down, to come to the hospital right away, and they'll hook me up to an IV line. Woo hoo!
I'm just glad that I'm now off all my co morbidity meds now.
Gosh
Yeah, that does suck. My surgeon has me hooked up with a GI doc so that I go through him even though he is away and he kind of gave me instructions on what to do if...
I don't think it'll get smaller, but you never know. Make sure you take the switch into denser foods slowly. You may need endoscopic dilation, not necessary a revision. I am going for 2-3 dilations. Not surgery, so it shouldn't be that bad if you need it. Just like an upper GI.

Jen,
I actually just had dilation of a pinpoint stricture - in my first 'connection' (anastamosis) below my stomach. Not all that common with the duodenal switch...much more common with the RNY. The doctor thought I had a stricture in my stomach - but was shocked to find it below there. He said it was quite uncommon - but, hey - I don't do anything easy I did not eat for the first 2 months after surgery. Tomorrow marks 1 week that I have been eating solid (normal) foods - and not liquids. I will say that most strictures can be taken care of in Endoscopy - sadly - mine was done in the OR under general anesthesia - mainly because he assumed the problem was in the stomach. Any further dilation will be done in Endo. I assure you that there was NO pain (other than a sore throat) - and the procedure was a breeze compared to WLS!!!
Good luck!
