New to this Board, what took me so long???
Hi Michelle!
I'm so excited to have found this board too...I'm sure it will be an added blessing to share with you and others...all going through the same journey at the same time.
I see your from MA...I was born in Boston...raised in Springfield...lived in Cambridge and Somerville in my teens. I've been in the south for over 26 yrs now. At times I miss the snow...but not often
Be talking to ya...
Hugs Tonya
Tanya, I just read your profile and I am in awe of you!! God has done such a work in your life. You really inspire me.
We moved to Louisiana a little over a year ago from Greenville. Two of our children and all of my husband's family are still there. I miss my mountains. Where we live now is FLAT!! Ricefields, crawfish fields, beanfields.... the only rises in the land are levees. However, we love it here. Go figure! I get lonesome for the mts every once in a while, but I get my fix a couple times a year when we go home, so I'll survive.
Maybe sometime we can meet. I would love to meet this amazing woman who has made such an impact on me!
Patricia
Tanya, well, we weren't affected by Katrina in a "storm" sense of the word. We had a beautiful day here. But everyone was affected in that our small town tripled in size. There were evacuees in all of our churches. We worked 'round the clock cooking, making sure they had essentials, helping them locate loved ones... and the list goes on. It was a very traumatic time for them and we did what we could to help ease their pain.
However, just a few weeks later, Miss Rita knocked on our doors. We had 90 mph sustained winds. But God was good to us. We lost a couple limbs to our trees, but some of our neighbors lost a lot more. We are so blest! Some of the people from Katrina had to come back to our shelters because they were now left homeless for a second time. It was so sad.
Pray for us this hurricane season. New Orleans is NOT ready. Don't believe what you are hearing on the news. We have friends in the Army Corps of Engineers, and they say it will take years to have the levees in shape for another hurricane like Katrina or Rita. Of course, the politicians are straining for every vote, so they say what they think the people want to hear. I would rather someone be frank with me! To say the least, our governor dropped the ball. Nagin is taking the heat for it, but she dropped the ball BIG TIME.
Okay, enough venting!!
Have a great day. I look forward to meeting you this summer!
Patricia
