HELP!!! - This plateau is getting me down
I have not lost a single pound in over 2 weeks... actually it has been almost 3 weeks. Ugh! I started losing right away and am down 28 lbs right now. I have been down 28 lbs for a while now!
I am always trying to be positive and take everything in stride, but this is really starting to get me down.
I get all my protein in and I stick to good foods when I eat. I get most of my liquid in every day... I would say 40-60 oz. I am exercising regularly. I just don't get it. I am ready to pull my hair out at this point. I was very patient as I knew from many years of dieting that stalls are normal, but for this long??? And I take in no more than 500-600 calories a day, so how can I NOT be losing weight!! I expected it for a week or so, but still??
Anyone else having this kind of problem?? I did see one other post about a stall, but none others. Are we a rarity in this journey?
Please help!
Hugs,
Deanna
You know at my last appointment I lost 10 lbs over a span of 3 weeks, I was really depressed and sad. Especially since in 1 week I'd lost 10 lbs the time before I went. So I understand how you're feeling. What I've been hearing/seeing is that maybe your body is in starvation mode, and you should maybe up your calorie intake (that's what my doctor said). Maybe an extra protein shake or bar? Or call your doctor and voice your concerns. I mean it seems like we've gone through SOOO much to get this weigh off, I completely understand your frustration.
Thank you for your reply.
I keep telling myself, just be patient. I think I am doing everything correctly. I am going by the instructions the dietician gave me at the doctor's office. I have an appointment with my doctor next Wednesday so I have not called. I thought about it today but knew he would not get back to me before next week anyway as he does surgeries on Friday.
Sometimes I am just not hungry and things just won't go down if I don't want to eat them. I do try to at least make sure that if I skip a meal, I have a protein drink or a protein bar instead. I hope my body is not in starvation mode... I don't know what else I can eat!!

I totally understand, My suggestion is try not to focus on the weight and try looking at inches. I have lost 39 pounds in 8 weeks but have lost 36.75 inches thats alot and you probibly are the same. Have you gone down in your clothes? try to look at it differently. BUT i know what you mean. I am not loosing they way some are but youhave to stay focused and do what your supose to do. We are all here with you stay strong and dont get down.

Hi Julie,
Thanks for replying. I did measure myself again last week when I started getting down about the weight. I have lost 5.5" in my chest, 5" in my waist and 5.5" in my hips.
How do you take your measurements? 36.75" is an incredible amount!! Good for you!!!
I am trying to stay focused. It is at least a lot easier than when I used to get discouraged on diets... I would start eating again. No danger of that happening now! I am rarely hungry at all and only eat because I know I am supposed to. I don't think I even eat 1/4 cup at a time unless it is soup then I can eat a little more. I guess that is why I am amazed that I am not losing more right now.

Deanna
Hey Deanna~~cheer up! The pounds will come off. Don't feel so bad because you haven't lost as much as the next loser. We are all different remember that. I am going into my 7th week and I've only lost 29lbs. I could complain that it's not enough but I think of it this way at least the weight is coming off, those pounds are gone forever and everytime I step on the scale it doesn't say 300+ anymore. Your weight can only go down not up!! So, hang in there treat your body good, like you have been and find something that you can munch on if you need to increase those calories to shake off that nasty plateau.

Hi Deanna!
Sorry to hear you are at a stall. I just finished a 9-day one myself. I totally agree with Julie that you have to switch to counting inches during one so you don't get crazy. And, while you seem to be getting in all the right stuff your calories are a little low. They should be no less than 600, 700 is preferable at this far out, especially if you are exercising. Your body is in starvation mode and holding onto every drop you put in. Give it a little more and see if it doesn't loosen up a little. I think you are scaring it. Please post when it breaks so we can celebrate with you! J.
Deanna: I was going over old post and found your. Something you need to know is you insides in to get smaller just like your outside, you are not on a stall your on a plateau so that you inside will get smaller. To fit your outside. Don't give up your doing great. Sharon
Here is some post from other people who are feeling like you.
I need some help, desperately. I just can't seem to figure out why I'm not losing any more weight. I'm six weeks out from surgery, on soft foods, sticking to 400-500 calories a day, walking 2 miles daily (burning approx 300 calories), drinking my water (approx 48 ounces), eating my protein (60-70 grams) and nada... I've been gaining and losing the same 2 pounds for 2 weeks. AAAGGGGHHHHH!!! I'm so frustrated!
p.s. I'm going to be a good girl and update my profile now...
Sarah,
Hang in there this is completely normal! This is just your bodies way of catching up. I bet if you were to take your measurements you are probably losing inches even though the scale isn't moving. The only suggestion I have is to up your water intake to at least 64 oz. That is what the body needs for proper hydration and it might help break the plateau faster.
Good luck and take care,
Your body is probally just taking a break. You will find at this time you are going down in sizes, losing inches. Do not panic, your body may be thinking you are starving throw in and extra protien shake or something.
