6-1/2 Weeks and a Two week stall.
It has been 6-1/2 weeks since my wonderful life saving surgery. I have lost a total of 42 pounds. I lost 31 the first month but I haven't lost any in two weeks. This is depressing. I am walking and trying desperately to drink all that god awful protein. I don't eat very much so it can't be that I'm eating enough to sustain this 237 pound body.
So what's up? I go to get a B-12 shot today and I hope to talk to Dr. Fields. Should I go see a nutritionist? Everything I'm eating is going down well and I've only had one instance where I threw up. (Salami is high in fat-lesson learned).
I'm down two sizes and am excited about looking better but I don't want the weight loss to stop or slow down.
What should I do?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I drink Crystal light with Unflavored Walgreen's Beneprotien. I have tried Isopure and Profect with Crystal light which makes them both tolerable but all these protein products just taste awful and chalky with horrible after tastes. I eat a lot of Chicken, peanut butter, mashed potatoes, tuna, eggs, etc.
Thanks,
Laura

Hi Laura -
It sounds like you are eating enough to not have to do the protein drinks...what gram count are you shooting for each day? Are you drinking enough water?
I'm envious of your 31 pounds the first month - my first month loss was only 17 pounds!! So if I do incredibly well the next two weeks - I might catch up to where you are. I think the thing to keep in mind (or at least I'm holding onto) is that we all lose differently. With all that weight loss your body probably needs to take a bit of time to reconfigure - also I bet during this time your inches are going down even if the pounds aren't.
I have to say I couldn't stand the Isopure, I agreed with a post I saw where someone called it "Isowannapuke". I drink the low carb Slim Fast or Atkins Advantage drinks. The low carb SF has 20 g of protein per serving, is low on sugars, and goes down okay. I've heard some doctors say no to it, but I think that is because the old kind of SF had a lot of sugar in it.
Anyway....just so you know, someone is jealous of your loss and know that it will keep going!!!

It sound like you are doing everything right. I heard that it is really important to get that protein in....do you know how much per day you are taking in?
Your weight loss has been great. Don't get discouraged. If you are like me, it took many, many years to gain the weight so the fact that you have taken off 42 in a short period of time is amazing!! I too, am at 42 at 8 weeks post-op.
Keep doing what you have been doing. Add some fruits and veggies to your diet and keep drinking the fluids. Think of how much healthier you are than presurgery.

Hey Laura
You have lost 42#???? WOW! You go girl! That is really great. You are probably just on a plateau while your body catches up with all the changes. I did that around 5-7 weeks post op. I will be 8 weeks out on Friday and have lost 35#'s thus far, so it sounds like you are doing great!! Though I have not had any problems eating foods or larger amounts (very unfortunately) so I am having to train myself with every meal to slow down and not eat as much. I think they left my pouch about 6oz.!! I could eat 4oz. within the first week after surgery. It really is a learning process for all of us. I just have this fear that I don't have enough self-discipline to maintain this healthy eating; as I never had any self-discipline with food.
I am very proud of you. Keep up the good work

Kristy-
I hope your coming to the April Meeting at Joe's Crab Shack.
The stall is really frustrating and Dr. Spates said that it was normal and that I was probably dehydrated. She also said to cut out any processed foods including cheese. She said it would all be there in 6 months when I've lost the weight. I'm not exercising as much as I should but I'm moving this month. I sold my house.
I've been reading the boards like crazy and some of the post say their doctors take them off protein at 4 weeks. That if your eating solids that your getting the protein and that the shakes and drinks are just high calories.... I've cut down on the protein drinks a little and am trying to drink a lot of water. The thing is I can drink water all day long no problem. However, I hate those protein drinks so much that one can sit on my desk all day and I only sip a little. Therefore, I think I'll drink the water and try to eat more protein. Tuna, eggs, Look at Sardines... holy crap and little can is 20 grams of protein. I'm not sure I like sardines but for 20 grams of protein, I can eat them.
I am having a lot of trouble slowing down too. I had one throw up episode when I ate a small piece of salami. Who knew that sucker was so loaded with fat. I won't try it again.
BTW I'm very proud of you too. I can't wait to see how you look. Everyone says they can really see it on me. I'm down two sizes from a 26 to a 22/20. I don't see it of course but then in my mind I was secretly wishing I would be a 10 by now. You know that whole fantasy thing of this will fix everything.

Laura,
When is the April meeting? I was not aware of it. I haven't been to any support groups yet because I just finished moving into a new house and doing some renovations on it. I feel your pain with your impending move. We moved 2 weeks after my surgery. It was awful!
Let me know about the April meeting; I would love to join in on it
Take care,
Kristy
Laura,
I just posted with the same situation. I have been at the same weight since right before my 1 month anniversary! I took it all in stride until this morning when I weighed in and still the same weight. Ugh. Very frustrating!
I have lost inches, but am at a stall in weight.
I hope we both get over this soon!!
Hugs,
Deanna
