Hey all! I want to know how many grams of protein you guys are getting in a day on average and is there a certain amount you have to get in in order for your body to not start eating your muscle? If so is there a siteI could go to, to find out how much I need a day? Thanks! Peggy

My doctor says I need at least 60 grams a day. Anything over that is a bonus. I have a hard time getting my 60 grams, because I can not take that Proteinex (most diqusting stuff ever made). Michelle

Peggy, My doctor wants me to get a minimum of 70g of protein a day. Not that easy when I cant stand all the supplements. I have started to add Unjury unflavored whey protein into a cup of decaf tea when I wake up and before I go to bed for an extra 40g and that seems to get me to where I need to be with my food intake and the supplements.

Do you have a nutritionist? Give them a call. I found this on the Internet. I remember when my nutritionist calculated mine it was based on my goal weight, not current weight and fairly sedentary lifestyle. My goal weight is 164 and she calculated 78 grams a day for me. She said it could adjust later, but not by much. How to Calculate Your Protein Needs: 1. Weight in pounds divided by 2.2 = weight in kg 2. Weight in kg x 0.8-1.8 gm/kg = protein gm. Use a lower number if you are in good health and are sedentary. Use a higher number (between 1 and 1.8) if you are under stress, are pregnant, are recovering from an illness, or if you are involved in consistent and intense weight or endurance training. Example: 154 lb male who is a regular exerciser and lifts weights 154 lbs/2.2 = 70kg 70kg x 1.5 = 105 gm protein/day

My early protein post-op goals were 50-100g, I was averaging around 63-65 and thought that was great. The nutritionist said I need 100g, minimum of 80g. So I upped it with a protein pudding or an additional shake. Lately I have been able to eat more too, I'm not having as much problem with protein as I do with fluids. Since Tuesday when I saw the nut. I've made the 100g target every day for protein. My original fluid goals were 32-64 ounces and I was averaging around 38 ounces [when I eat real food, I find the liquids can't fit, so I have to remember to load up on liquids early in the day when I don't want to eat]. Nut. said aim for 48 to 70 ounces of fluids [70!?!] ... now I stay up later if I have to to get in the 48 ounces, she said that by raising the protein and fluids [and calories, I was averaging 650 a day and she wants me to aim for 1100-1600] that will stop this current 'stall' [about a week now]. My goal for this coming week is to get another 8 ounces in [to average at least 54]. I've discovered I can tolerate OJ mixed with a little grapefruit juice and then halved with water and am loving it! xosm
