SALAD!!!!!!
OK... I know this sounds kind of dorky, but yesterday I ate my first raw vegetables in 6 weeks, and I have always liked veggies (raw or cooked), but I felt so happy that I could eat them and not feel sick. Part of what's gotten me down is certain foods I've always liked (like broccoli) aren't sitting too well with me, and I was so happy that my stomach didn't hurt or feel sick afterwards.
I've been kind of scared of veggies, and unfortunately too comfortable with carbs (crackers, toast, pita chips) because my new stomach has accepted those foods better. But I got a big wake up call after my last appointment, only lost 10 lbs in the last 3 weeks! I need to concentrate more on protein and veggies and get out of my carb comfort zone.
I just started on salad a few days ago. I was scared to try salad at 6 weeks out. My surgeon said people usually get sick on the dressing, not the veggies themselves. I had low carb low sugar fat free Italian dressing and it bloated me terribly. I've been lucky so far and haven't had any problems with the veggies themselves. I didn't realize how much I missed fresh tomatoes.
Quick tip I got from a veteran on the salad veggies....pop them in the microwave for 15 secs. before adding to lettuce or do a little bowl of them at a time and keep in the fridge til you use them; just for the beginning. They go down a bit better if softened a little. Watch the sodium in the salad dressings; often its higher in the SF/FF products. Switching to salad won't necessarily take the weight off it you retain water from the sodium like I do. Ughh!
