Things to help along this emotional roller coaster
ok folks!! Thanks for all the food ideas. Now we need to start focusing on this roller coaster we are on. Sometimes we are going up that hill so slowly with our weight loss and other times we are zooming down the hill/ the weight just flying off. I am up some day when I am losing and not puking but, other days I just want to eat or drink. I know I never want to be heavy again. I have been up this hill before and down. I was heavy in high school, then I lost 100 lbs when they corrected my bowels. I became rock solid. I only had a little flabby skin below my belly button so I wore all shorts, skirts, and pants to my belly button. Then my upper stomach was perfect. I even used to dance/cheer for a major professional sports team. And I kept it off for 10 years but, then I got hurt put on steroids, my thyroid whacked out, and got pregnant. Doubled my weight in less than 3 years. I am so scared to go back down and then worry about that kinda thing happening again. Ok enough jibber jabber, here are some of the things that I have heard that will help or I have used in the past and helped:
Extra Skin----In the past I got seaweed wraps. Use lose inches mostly water weight but it used to tighten my skin. I also am thinking about getting some skin tighting lotion. Anything will help this time through.
Hair Loss----My beautician told me to use Nioxin. Its supposed to be for chemically treated hair and to promote growth but, she has started using it with numerous surgical patients.
Sauces and Gravies for foods---Deanna from this site told me to try vitalady. Susan Maria's Bariatric Eating also has some things.
Workouts---For more energy, I always eat a 1/2 orange before I used to work out. It pepped me through. And I always chew gum while working out. No idea why. The trainers all tell you to really drink down your water while you are there and please drink a protein drink a little before and a lot after your workout-------you will see more results. Books like Body for Life have excellent ideas about exercises for each part of your body that you want to transform and are a hell of a lot cheaper then a personal trainer.
Goals---set monthly goals that are attainable, so you wont be disappointed. You can set a goal of 10 lbs a month and when you hit 15 you'll feel awesome. My main goal right now is to walk an all nighter (10-20 miles) in Chicago on Aug. 12 for Suicide Prevention. I think it will be a blast and I am going to start training for now. If anyone wants a roadtrip, I would love to have someone join me. I love roadtrips so if anyone has a big walk/run they are training for let me know, maybe I'll join you.
Friends, Family---This is going to be a very trying time in our lives. I already know of so many people who got a divorce after because there spouse did not support them. I remember having people happy for my loss but, then talking smack behind my back. "Oh you lost but I bet you have lots of skin"--or "you took the easy way out" is what I have already heard. I say well misery loves company and I don't want to be their company. Stay positive. I'm not confrontational. I tell people I love how I feel or people who know what I am going through--you all. We can do this and no one is going to hold us back from our dreams.
When I just want to eat--I keep a picture of what I used to look like and now and I tell myself --are you really hungry. Then I drink my protein shake and smile!!!!!!!
OK FOLKS -------PLEASE tell me your ideas! I love to hear them and lets all plan a date on some wild roller coaster next year when we are all 15 months in (May 2007) and 1/2 are weight or at goal!!! Hugs and Kisses, Sandy
