I am so depressed, on the feb 22 I had my wls. At my two week checkup I had lost 17 pounds, I was so happy. Today me and my dh went to buy a scale and guess what, I have not lost another pound since my two week checkup. I will be a month out on the 28th and I am so depressed. What am I doing wrong? I know I don't get in enough protein but I am working on it. I walk every day, I barely eat anything at all, maybe two meals a day. My seven year old daughter eats 10x more than I do. I know I cant live off of a liquid diet all of my life. When i do eat it is only about 4 oz of anything, soup, protein, jello, etc.. It is so wonderful to see how others here have lost weight, I just feel like I am meant to be fat forever no matter what I do. I failed again.

Hey June, Read the posts from before. Like the one before you to Stephanie W--Plateau so soon. This is normal for right now!! Just stay positive!!! I think your body is just catching up with the past few weeks. Think of it this way! It seems as if the vast majority are at least 50 down by month 3 and 75 by month 6 with the RYN. I have been watching everyone's #'s. So get off the scale. I was doing that tooo!!! Weigh in weekly. Then think of yourself 50 lbs lighter by the start of summer and 75 lbs lighter by the end. Then make Christmas goals based on what other people are doing. The amount of weight that you lose monthly also has to do with how much that you have to lose and if you continuosly get the needed protein in. Hugs and Kisses, Sandy

June! I had my surgery on 2-21 also. I lost 15 lbs. before surgery, but have too only lost 17lbs. since surgery day. I felt the same way you do now, but I have to keep telling myself.......it will come off........there should be no question about that. We have to just be patient. If you think about it.........17 lbs.......that is AWESOME!! Could you have lost that in 1 month without the surgery? How much did you weigh before surgery? We are doing fine.....we will lose. We might not lose as fast as we would like to, but in time we will. Keep your chin up......don't get on the scale everyday! I have been doing that and I am actually giving my scale to my parents to keep and will weigh myself only once a week now. It will drive you crazy to weigh yourself everyday! Good luck and remember it will come off! Kristin from Michigan

Hi June, I had surgery at Barix the week before you. At my 2-week I was down only 4lbs...talk about pissed. I cut out the soups; I was getting too much sodium and everything fell into line. I do notice when I'm not getting at least 1/2 my protein requirement the scale won't budge and I'm told that's because my body goes into starvation mode and holds on with a vengence. Are you using fitday.com to log your intake? It's free and after a week or so as you add to it and build your base of foods it gets easier and easier to use. Now I can tell better when I'm lacking in the protein dept. and will add something in; cottage cheese is always a winner and Hershey's NSA choco milk before bed. Also, make sure you don't let 3 hours pass without eating at least 2oz of some protein; can't live all day on SF jello. 6 meals a day. Keep in touch. We're all figuring it out, you didn't make a mistake, it's early days yet. Keep the faith. Jackie

You can't go by other scales! You have to stick to just one! I am the same way! I had surgery, my husband bought me a nice new digital scale i would weigh myself and the weight would not come off! At 2 wks out i think i dropped only like 4lbs! I couldn't believe it...well i went back to the docs and got on his scale and i was down like 16lbs! Don't worry about it! If you are anything like me, you are loosing inches too! You will be fine! The weight will come off when and how it is suppose too! Keep your head up and try to stay off of the scale! I was getting on it everyday now i do like every few days! I'm not dwelling on it! I can tell the difference in my clothes and stuff! Plus like i said, the scales are all different. the digital scale was like 8lbs higher then the docs, my old scale was 2lbs less then the docs, i went back to my next apt and my 2lbs scale was now off by 6lbs! So it's hard to judge! it's hard to wait for the docs visits too to get on the scale!! Good luck and keep up the good work! Don't get down already! Mary Kate

You may just be on a plateau. I lost 17lbs at my two week post op check up and then I was stalling at the same weight until I finally started to lose again. It could be any factor of things. It could be the fluid intake or it could be what you are eating! Don't worry the weight will start to come off again

Oh gosh don't get depressed (easy for me to say now since I have started losing again !!) It seems like our body goes thru some kinda strange thing around week 3... May be it finally realizes that things are not the same as it used to be ! The protein is important though so do your best to work on getting that in. Find a drink or liquid that you can tolerate. Add some protein powder to sugar free pudding... Don't give up... Pick one day of the week or maybe two and get on the scale ONLY on those days ! Everyday can get too emotional ! Keep us posted and hang in there !!

I am feeling your plight, June. I had my two week checkup on the 7th. Since then, I have only lost 6lbs. March 16 was my one month out and I haven't even lost 30 lbs (the number I'm seeing a lot of people lose in a month.) I know I shouldn't compare myself to others, but it's so hard not to. When am I going to experience the joy of having clothes that are too big? People ask me how much weight have I lost and I say I don't want to talk about it. I hope peolpe don't get me wrong with all of my negativity. I am very grateful to have had the surgery, I guess I just had different expectations. It's from reading everyone else's successful posts.

hi! I know what you mean.....i am post op 5.5 weeks, lost 30 lbs exactly, with hard hard work! I do not eat carbs, or very little. My Dr.'s say more protien per day , faster weight loss. The only reason i lost sooo much was that i had to go back on liquids after 3.5 weeks due to an infection in my thyroid, which my surgeons never caught! If I hadnt done that, i would be less lbs down, i know. I eat danon fit n light yogurt daily, isopure protien (50grms) per serving!, and cottage cheese, and an occasional string cheese from Trader Joes ( i forgot the kind, but its 1 carb, and 8 grms protien and like 60 calories!!! thats about it, nothing else, but an ocassional sugar free ice pop to get more water in. I sip all day long! I eat nothing bad at all, no junk food! EVER! No sugary drinks......im pretty strict! Stick with something strick****ch your protien and carbs, calories, and you will do fine.......by the way at 2 weeks post op i stayed the same weight for one week! I was pissed too! I know lose apx a half a pound a day. God Bless, and feel free to e mail me......sincerely, Tricia
