hello all this is June's husband Neal I have noticed how much information is given out on this site and my wife and I are thankful for everyone's input. now I have a delima that I need help with. my wife is about 4 weeks out. 2 weeks ago when she went to the doctor she lost 17lbs. but she believes that she's not loosing anymore weight....now I have seen a reduction in her stomach, but of course she did'nt see it. we went out today and bought a scale(not that I approved) and weighed herself. she says she hasnt lost any weight in 2 weeks, and now she's depressed. ive explained to her that now she's on soft foods her weight loss may slow a bit. she believes she will never loose the weight, and will be heavy forever. and that her surgery was a mistake. I told her she was wrong, and she WILL loose the weight, she reads how people have lost 25lbs in 4 weeks. I told her everybodys metabolisim is diffrent and the lost will vary. can anybody out there help me explain to my wife that things will get better

Neal - how nice of you to write on your wife's behalf!!! I read her post and know that she is upset by this. You say you can see a difference - did yall do any measurements before surgery? Maybe you should re-measure and see if there is a lose of inches. I too had surgery on Feb 21 - and recently had to go back to the hospital because of an ulcer and one of my nurses had surgery about a year ago and she said that the worst part for her was when she would stop losing weight and people were telling her that she looked smaller - she didn't take her measurements from the very beginning but started measuring later and when she wasn't losing pounds she was losing inches and that really helped her. Maybe yall should do that - if you didn't measure pre-op go ahead and start now that way you will have that to go by when the pounds aren't going down.Just a suggestion - good luck in your wife's journey and tell her lucky she is to have a supportive husband like you!!! I'm having the same problem. I had surgery 2/9 and I'm stuck at a plateau for the SECOND time already. I'm getting very frustrated, but trying to keep in mind that this is normal and it will come off. It isn't easy to keep your brain in positive mode when waiting for the numbers on the scale to drop. I know how your beautiful wife feels. I think I'm so used to dieting that I'm afraid the numbers are going to start going up again, as they always did. Of course logically this is impossible, but it's hard to break your old way of thinking. Just keep encouraging her and telling her how this will all be worth it in the end. You're doing a great job, Neal. I'm lucky to have a guy like you - concerned and very supportive. Keep up the good work.

I know the feeling, I had surgery 2/9 also, and I only lost 11 lbs from the day they weighed me on surgery day to one month out, and now only 14 lbs all total. It was and is only 1 or 2 lbs a week, and for two weeks it didn't budge. From the 2nd week we have been able to eat soft foods, and it did slow it a little, but for the long haul i know how she feels. I have 130 lbs to loose and at this rate it will take two years of hard work to loose that weight. I'm discouraged also. You are not alone!!!!!! maril
