My ordeal - LONG - but pls let me know if this has happened to you
Well I am three weeks out today and I am sitting in the hospital. Some of you may recall that I was complaining about nausea and dry heaving last week - well I went to the Dr on Thursday - he did blood work and stuff and said that he thought everything was normal - it was just the healing process for me but if I starting vomiting then I need to let him know. Well I live in Austin and my Dr is in Dallas (the Dallas VA) - well I was ok Fri during the day and Friday night I went to get my kids from baseball practice and I was driving down the street - felt sick to my stomach and thought I was going to dry heave again - and I threw up - I just kept throwing up - then I we finally got home - I threw up again - all during the night I was having the throwing up spells - so Sat morning I decided to go to the ER in Austin - knowing that they do Bypass surgery there - well I go in and stay all day they give me IV fluids and call the VA and want to admit me to do tests -well the short story of it is - the VA decided that it wasn't an emergency since I was not dehydrated and that if I could get to Dallas they would admit me and run more tests but would not authorize the Austin ER to do the tests - basically they wouldn't pay for it. So off to Dallas I went - we got here on Sunday at 12 AM and was here all day - at 8 pm they decided to do a CT Scan - then in the morning they do a scope and guess what - no stricture - I have an ulcer!!!! I was not prepared for that - has this happened to anyone else? Well I have to get 2 days of IV meds and start being able to keep fluids down and then I will be able to go home. So that's where I am at. Please keep me in yours prayers. I hope to be going home tomorrow. On a little bit of a bad note - my dry told me that I can't go back to work for 3 weeks - so I will probably lose my job, but oh well - I will take it as it comes.

Stacy,
I had multiple ulcers about 4 years ago. The ulcers got so bad that I tore a part of the flap to my stomach, my hiatal hernia something happened with it and I threw up constantly. They did corrective surgery in an upper GI on the flap but, the ulcers were treated with nexium. I was better within 1 week. I had to faithfully take my nexium (the little purple pill) and it healed the problem. I thought the heartburn would never go away. Then I quit using the nexium. I hate being a pill popper. Then the anthesiologist summized that is why I drank so much pop and gained so much weight over the past few years. I wanted to get rid of the acid taste in my mouth and weird I know settle my stomach. I drank pop more than I ever ate. I just had the surgery 2 weeks ago and he saw nothing wrong but, the acid reflux has been horrible for the nausea. He prescribed prevacid I guess its like nexium and no more nausea or awful taste in my mouth. I actually sleep through the night. I used to get up and swig pop constantly. Take whatever magic little pill they give you it will get rid of the ulcer. You'll do great. As for the job, everything in life happens for a reason. Think of it that way!!! Hugs and kisses Sandy
Stacy, sorry for the ordeal. The good news is ulcers are cured with pills and you want to take them because it's harder to operate on our pouches so be faithful to your pills. The other good news is that you shouldn't lose your job if your employer has to comply to the Family Leave Act. It guarantees that if medically necessary everyone has up to 12 weeks we can be out of work in a year for our own illness or that of an immediate family member (including parents) and they have to hold your job. They don't have to pay you for it but they can't fire you if you have a note. Here's the link: http://www.dol.gov/esa/whd/fmla/ .
Check with your HR dept. or do some checking on your own so you are prepared to face your boss. And, as the others say, God will handle it and/or you, don't worry. Jackie
