Have question - need help NOW
I am almost two weeks post op and my doctor's office is closed right now. I can call if I absolutely need to. Here's my question. Over the last hour or so whenever I take a couple of sips of water I get an ache in my central abdomen area. It is just left of the center of my abdomen between my breasts and navel. It starts as an ache and then gradually turns into pain (about a 5 out of 10) and then goes away as quickly as it came. Anyone experienced this? What was it? What did you do? I have my 2 week follow up on Wednesday so I definitly plan to ask about it but I wonder if I should be very concerned in the meantime. Thanks for your help with this.
Jean
Jean, if you are drinking plain water this may be the reason for that pain you are feeling. I've read that plain water does this because it's really dense. Try some flavored water (sugar free of course**** sf popsicles. Adding flavorings to our water changes the ph of the water, and that's what makes the difference and makes it go down easier. Try it and if you still feel the pain make sure to call the doctor even if the office is closed...take no chances.
Relaw Jean! I freak about strange pains that I get here and there too. I am also 2 weeks post op and due for my appt on Wednesday. My doctor told me just to watch for fever. He said that is the tell all. Otherwise, he said that I am just healing. You could have gotten extra gas in your stomach. Calm down and take a pain pill and relax. I swore I had a leak last weekend and he said I was feeling different things I didn't notice before. I stretched for my 1 year old and hurt my left side. Look also at your incision and see if it is now bruising, mine bruised up in the past few days and I can feel when I take certain meds and they get stuck!! Let me know. Hugs and Kisses Sandy
I had a similar problem at two weeks and I realized through reading other people's experiences that maybe it was the water temperature causing the cramps. Sure enough, I stopped drinking cold water and haven't had that problem since. I drink all my water lukewarm now. I miss having a cold drink (i used to enjoy my drinks super cold) but I hear that later on I will probably be able to tolerate it. Good luck.
I, like all of these others, have had the same problem too but only with plain water. I called my doctor today and he said that if I am still unable to drink just plain water (I am 5 weeks out) that I am going to have to stick with the Crystal Light, however he also said that by adding squirts of either, lime, lemon, and cucumber (YES, cucumber!) that will help too. I am not a cucumber person, however it is apparently very refreshing. I tried drinking my water extremely cold, with ice, and luke warm and nothing worked. He said that because water is dense, like someone said above, that it goes through your body much faster than other liquids and is just simply irritating your pouch.
The good news: It WILL get better! You will be able to drink water again normally in time...but I am so sick of Crystal Light that I am hoping it is soon!
