What am I doing wrong????
I went for an evaluation today at the gym I go to and when I stepped on the scale I was very upset. I only lost 4 pounds since 2-21. What am I doing wrong. As of 3-8 I will be 1 month post-op and as of 3-5 I have lost only 22 pounds since surgery. Any suggestions on why so little loss or what I may be doing wrong.
Hello Sherri, well like everyone says-we are all going to lose weight at different rates. I don't really know why but what I've read over and over again here and on another board is that, when they have all their protein or increase it they see bigger weightloss results-does that make sense? Personally, I think you are doing great and maybe some of us start off losing slow but then begin to lose tons a few months out while others weightloss will slow down. So just hang in there and keep doing what your doing because we are still going to have to work very hard at losing weight and "the tool" only helps us not to consume so many calories and the wrong foods. I had surgery 2/9 and have lost 31 pounds total. 13 prior to surgey. So i think that comes out to be 18 pounds since surgery. It sounds like we are just about equal. 3-9 I will be 1 month so I'll find out from the doctors office exactly how much. I can feel a differnce though in my pants. What about you?
I am having a hard time with the protein also. SO basiclly I am having 2 protein drinks a day. That gets me at leat 42 grams of protein.
What are you eating? I am just sticking to yogart, broth, cottage cheese (though I have a hard time with it). Today I tried refried beans and mushed them even more...yum

I had surgery on 1/27 and post on the Jan 2006 forum. I thought that I would drop in and see how the Feb ops are doing.
I didn't realize that a plateau during the first month was normal. But guess what? A majority of the Jan post-ops experienced a plateau. Mine lasted for 18 days and just ended. The past 4 days I have lost 5 lbs so the plateau for now is over. It was a shock for me- but after seeing that everyone else was experiencing it, I felt normal. Take a look at the Jan 2006 board just to see what folks are experiencing one month out from you. It will help.

I had surgery on Feb 2, and have lost 22 lbs since surgery, thirteen the week before on a liquid diet for a total of 35 lbs, but still 22 in a month. I am so excited about the weight loss. I only lost three pounds this week, but two of them in the last two days!!
Hang in there. I don't think you're doing anything wrong. That's a great loss in my opinion.

Girl, I am feeling the same way, I had my surgery on 2/6 and I can not seem to break the 20 pound mark! I hate it, I am doing what I am supposed to, well, I jumped the gun on tuna, but only by a week and I can not imagine that making that much of a difference! I remember the good old days, when I COULD lose 20 pounds in a month and it really does bum me out. I know it is gonna happen but just hovering at 19 pounds is really driving me bananas. I am exercising and trying to get in the protein, but the water is a struggle!

Well, I'm right there with you. I has surgery 02-06-06. Hell, some days I show a gain?!?!? Anyway, I think our bodies are adjusting and I'm trying not to freak out about it. I'm pretty sure that I would have done flips to lose 20 lbs. pre-op, so I'm going to be thrilled about it now.

I'm so glad to read all of your posts. I just had my surgery on 2/27 and am just a week out. It seemed to me that even someone who had nothing to lose would lose 5 to 10 during the first week but I only lost 4. One thing I notice in reading this though is that I seem to be able to eat more. I eat blended bean soup for dinner, more than 1 cup. I eat it slowly, but it goes right down. I'm easily getting 40 to 60 gms of protein and yesterday I had 700 calories. I've been feeling like maybe I'm eating too much. After reading all the posts it seems like maybe I'm on track.

OK so i had my surgery 2/2 and 8 days out i weighed in at dr and lost 22pounds I KNOW 8 days.....but then at 4 weeks out i weighed (i only weigh once a month now) I had lost a total of ( drum roll) 24 pounds....so i have to agree our bodys are freaking out "to store fat or burn it that is the question" I walk 5 times a week 2 miles im doing all i can with protien about 60 grams and water is a struggle and i was a big water drinker before surgery. SO what i think is think of it this way. average weight loss for a normal person on a diet is 2 pounds a week in 4 weeks your looking at 8 pounds....and you lost 22! 22 that is almost triple. I think that we see these dramatic re****s and forget it took 6 months or a year and also if you start out not as big you lose not as fast. 22pounds is amazing and you should be so proud. I think as time passes you will see weight fly off. also if you took your measurments before take them at a month out i lost 21 inches...thats alot. i mean 2 in in my neck! not to mention all my other parts lol i am sure your clothes are feeling loose and you have to maintain a positive additude....and remeber do not compare to others it is like having a new baby and seeing which one walks first. you are an individual. and you will lose differantly. BE PROUD! you made it and your doing great Im proud of you!

SORRY SO LONG.....I had surgery 2/13 Lap RNY. On my 2 week appt. 2/27 I thought surely I'd be 15-19 down like everyone else. I was 4. I was pissed and also depressed and immediately wanted to eat (that was a revelation in itself). Two things were determined though. Yes, I thought I was doing great getting in the proteins but I was doing it with blended soups. The sodium was killing me; retaining water like crazy. (If you are already working out at the gym you could be worsening this effect as water will retain to protect muscles you are newly working out...FYI)
Also, when I'd drink my protein drink my hands would itch; same with some yogurts. 2nd determination was I was allergic to whey protein concentrate which is found in most yogurts; that + my protein sups (which were whey when I checked) were making me allergic, not always but when taken too close together they'd build up. I'd getting burning and itching and then I started to see a couple hives. So...on the advice of the nutritionist I switched to soy instead of whey and I cut the soups back to 4oz. at a time and only once a day and I watch my sodium content now that I'm on pureed. I was told I was not expected to reach 100% of protein goal until on solid foods; at pureed stage 60-80% of goal was just fine.
I checked all the yogurts at my nearby stores and found only Dannon Light and Fit, light blue container, 60 cals, 5gr protein, 5-7 sugars, no whey or whey protein concentrate. They taste great. My soy protein adds in just fine to SF choc. pudding, yogurt, and Carnation Instant Breakfast + tbsp of peanut butter.
Try cutting the soups and my doc also recommended if I was drinking alot of fruit juice (even diluted) to cut that as well. See if it helps you. Since I started that 2 weeks ago, I've lost an additional 16lbs for a total of 20. I think I'll hit 25 for the 13th, my one month anniversary.
