Hello all, I have not been posting much as I have been concentrating on recovery and doing all the things I am supposed to do. Today is my 2 week anniversary! I am down 20 lbs by my scale, but I have my check up next Wednesday so I will get an official weight then. I am doing very well. My side is sore where the main incision is still healing, but it is very managable at this point. I am getting my protein in with no trouble. I am still trying to get my 64 oz. of fluids a day, but getting there. I am tolerating everything I eat very well. Last night my husband wanted chinese food, so I decided that I would have egg drop soup and vegetables with tofu. I was happy that I could eat out too and still eat healthy... especially at this early stage. I am exercising every day. I walk on a treadmill and I bought an elliptical which I use twice a day. The elliptical really gets my legs so I take it easy on that and do it twice a day. I am paying a lot of attention to this new developing routine, and trying to make sure I get it right. I figure the habits we start early are the ones that stay with us, so I am trying to get that established. It is nice to be able to sleep on my left side again. I was only able to sleep on my back right after surgery and then on my back and my right side. My right hip is the one that suffers from the sciatica I have due to herniated disks in my lower spine so this has been troublesome, but now I can sleep on my left side too, I just have to position myself carefully. I still have one incision that is healing. It is the main one on the left side, and it is closing up, but is not completely closed yet. Every single day I feel better than the day before and I am very pleased with my progress!! How is everyone else doing? Would love hear everyone's progress!! Hugs, Deanna

Deanna your progress sounds exactly like mine. I had RNY distal on Valentine's Day. When I went back on Feb 23 for follow up, I had gone from 438 to 416, a loss of 22 pounds. And I believe by my 3 week anniversary I will break into the 300's and will have lost 40 pounds. It is exciting to know this is really working. At first I could only sleep on my back too and I hate sleeping on my back. With the liquid vicodin I was able to roll onto my right side. It still aches a little (more like I can feel it stretching) if I go on my left side. All incisions have healed well and stitches are gone now. I have been blessed also with being able to handle my water needs and get my 90 grams of protein in each day. Today I moved from pureed to soft diet. I have tried lots of different things, including pureed chicken livers, crabmeat, clams, shaved turkey breast, cream of wheat, green beans, and other stuff. This morning I had one whole poached egg at the restaurant where I go to meet with the guys. It was so delicious. Be careful with restaurant made egg drop soup since they dump some high carb stuff in there. You can make chicken broth at home and drop an egg in it. Much healthier. At restaurant, Won Ton might be better and skip eating the won tons. I also feel better day by day. Today I went out with the car for the first time by myself. Wednesday I have a job interview so I hope I am not spacey. I envy you the ability to exercise. Doc told me to just wal****il I was one month out. I have some spinal and hip problems which keep me from being as active as you. But I hope that goes away.

Glad to hear you are doing so good. I wish I could say the same. Surgery wise I am doing great. Losing weight wise I am doing terrible I had surgery on 2-8-06 and as of today 3-5 have only lost a total of 22 pounds. I cant figure it out. It is getting depressing. Keep up the good work. God Bless Sherri

Hi Sherri, Don't get discouraged. Everyone's body is different and we all lose at different rates. 22 lbs in a month is really not bad. Have you ever before been able to lose that much in one month? I know I haven't. Hang in there. You will get there! I know you will. Kathy
