Gummy Vitamins everyday The first 4 days I ate nothing but Jello, Popsicles (fruit or sugar free) and Clear protein drinks (Profect and Isopure) After the 4th day I started adding and trying very little bites of the following: Crystal Light with Unflavored protein Mashed potatoes- Not very much as this is very filling to me Milk- skim Sugar Free Pudding- very filling after only a few bites I tried broths but I don't like the taste of clear broths I tried about 2 oz of Cereal (Clusters) in milk and it was very filling and went down without a problem I am 8 days out and tonight I tried: Chicken chewed to mush (my husband wanted KFC)- I had only three little pieces and was full. Cheese-tried some fat free today Interested in what others have tried. My family keeps saying are you sure you can have that. I have just been trying a bite waiting a little while if it doesn't hurt or come back up I think it's ok. I'm not sure if I'm getting all my protien in but I'm trying. Seems to me if it has protein in the drink - then it tastes nasty. Laura

Laura: I'm shocked that they let you eat what you are !! Our Stage II diet which is full liquids, allows me strictly liquids, no actual food at all like chicken or cheese, wow ! YOu are gutsy. I'd be too scared to try that anyway even if they let me. My surgery was also 10 days ago (open Roux N Y) and I can have cream soups, sugar free kool aid, cream of wheat, cream of rice, lowfat milk, protein drinks, s/f jello and pudding, low fat yogurt, plain, water and crystal light. That's it. I would love to try REAL food but until they say we can, I wouldn't. Cereal sounds wonderful right now, anything to crunch would be a dream. I'm having trouble getting all the water in but protein is not a problem, just have another protein drink ! The supplements taste horrid and I gag taking them. Let me know what stage you are in. Hi, I had my surgery on 2/7 and am also still in the full liquid phase. I am basically living on protein drinks and water or decaf iced tea. I don't know how anyone has the time to fit in anything else. I can barely get all my protein and water in (actually im really not). How much liquid do you all consume at one time? I am taking about an hour to get down 8oz of a protein drink.

Last night I was actually hungry for food. But on Wednedsay, I can have cotage cheese or yogart so I'll hold out. I've been drinking the "pure Protein" drinks they have either 21 or 35 grams of protein so I've been between 50-70 grams a day. These are pretty good and they have a few flavors. you can get them at trader joes for about 1.69-2.09 cheap as far as these things go. Intersting that some of us can eat and others like me are still on liquids. Even after I can have cottage cheese or yogart. That's it until week 5! When I can finally have so pureed food.

Hi, I stayed on liquids for the first 10 days after surgery. I was constantly sipping water and I found a good protein power that I doctored up with s/f rasberry or caramel syrup and blended in a frozen banana or frozen peaches or frozen strawberries and flax seed oil. I drank a lot of chicken broth, ate s/f jello and an occasional s/f popsicle. I was so excited when I went on soft food. The first thing I ate was scrambled egg beaters with a smidgen of low fat cheese. Devine! Now I eat a dollup of mashed potatoes, hamburger gravy, tuna and other canned fish, spinach, asparagus (over cooked veggies), apple sauce, pudding and a small cracker. All the foods I eat now are pretty mushy, like salmon patties and hot oatmeal but it goes down easy and I have not had any trouble during or after my mealettes. Good Luck and Take Good Care, Jackie

Hi Jackie, Sounds like you have a good handle on this. I'm still pre-op, but only 4 days to go! My surgery is next Monday, the 27th. Can I ask what brand of protein you are using? I have tried several and am not real keen on any of them so far. I don't mind the IsoPure fruit flavored ones. You have some great suggestions! Thanks for your input. Kathy

Hi Kathy, Good luck Monday. Everyone's experience is different but I can tell you I had my surgery on a Friday and was home and comfortable by Sunday. I have been blessed to have an easy surgery and great recovery and I wish the same for you! I found Designer Whey to be very easy to mix or blend and it tastes great to me. I am drinking Vanilla Praline with frozen banana and peaches now. The chocolate peanutbutter caramel is good as is the natural if you want to create your own flavor treat. I use the Torani sugar free syrups to add different flavors too. The frozen fruits, when blended, make a cold smoothie effect that I like but stay away from the berries for at least six week post because of the seeds. I add the flax seed oil for essential amio acids and then don't have to worry about suppliments but your tuna and salmon will help with that after you go on soft foods. You can buy the whey in several sizes at the VitaminShoppe or on line and I get the syrups at Cost Plus Marketplace but I have seen them all over. I started out buying the smallest quantity in case I wasn't satisfied but soon moved on to larger sizes. Also, I have used the Flintstones chewable vitamins since day one post and like them much better tha Centrum. Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK Jackie
