I had my rny on 2/22/06, I have done fabulous! I developed some discomfort that I kinda ignored. In the past 24 hours, I've been diagnosed with an internal wall hernia at my RNY site, had surgery, and been discharged from the hospital. I wish I had the number of that bus that hit me. It's really made me hurt. Ofcourse, this just wraps up an crazy year - I hope 2007 turns out better. I also found out I have endometrosis. And to think. I was considering a breast reduction, now that I've been through surgery, it will be a long time before I see a gurney if I have any control of it. Happy New Year. Jen

Did they fix the hernia or you are going to have surgery? Either way, I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, The hernia was fixed on tuesday 12/26. They said it was an internal hernia which is directly related to my RNY surgery. I feel worse now that I"m recoperating, it feels like I got hit by a bus. I go for my follow up next week. The only thing I'm missing is work, which will be there next week. I will keep you posted. This is my only RNY complication and I'm not upset about it everything else has been uneventful. Jen

I am glad it's over and done with and you are fine. I was actually excited about my incisional hernia because I will get a tummy tuck when I get it repaired. Stay healthy. xosm

I'd love a breast reduction and tummy tuck. I had what is termed an "internal hernia" which is where : internal hernias occur when the bowel passes under bowel. With gastric bypass and duodeanal switch, the rearrangement of the intestines creates a potentinal trap. Sometimes these traps are closed, but as you lose weight, the trap opens again. If you have an internal hernia, you'll definitely need more surgery to fix it and to pull the intestines out of the trap. Sometimes the blood supply to the bowel can be interrupted as the bowel passes into the trap. If this occurs, some of your bowel may may have to be removed. When your procedure is done laparoscopically, you tend to form less scar tissue, which may result in more internal hernias. The good news is that if caught early, the surgery to fix the internal hernia can also be done laparoscopically. This was taken from Weight Loss Surgery for dummies. Evidently there is enough support that it was taken seriously by the surgeon and my disabillity insurance company. The outcoime I got today was that they allot 4 weeks for recovery. I only had 3 with my RNY and it was like pulling teeth. I didn't see this coming at all. I started having trouble eating last weekend and attributed it to stress. Christmas day it came to a full blow and i couldn't eat a saltine cracker. I deveoped pain when I sipped water to,. Besides the GI discomfort I wasn'tn in any pain and I didn't see that this was an emergency situation. I will be fine though.
