Complete & Incomplete Proteins

Honestly, I don't know how to complete an incomplete protein. I have beans all the time, but if I don't complete the protein, it doesn't count towards my protein, right? I can't get ahold of my nutritionist to ask her, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been wondering about this because I eat split pea soup and beans all the time. How do I complete that protein? I know that rice completes a protein, but are there other alternatives besides rice? I haven't eaten rice in the 6 months since my surgery because I'm afraid that it'll expand in my pouch and fill me up with unnecessary stuff. *sigh* Help! Jen Halliday

Everything I've read says that you need to add some grains to complete the protein. I've been eating some crackers or tortilla chips when I eat beans.

WW Jen, I had no idea about this. Thanks for posting it. I don't have a nutritionist so I'm just following basic dietary guidlines provided by my surgeon. Anymore info would be appreciated . Good thing I eat crackers & tortilla chips with my beans just because I like them . Elisa

Hey, A really good person to ask about this is Dame Tooter. If I remember correctly you can complete the chain by adding something else within 1/2 an hour of the original item. You can put beans with cheese. Your pea soup could have some ham in it. I eat the microwave pork rinds and complete the chain with some cheese or nuts or a small piece of deli meat. HTH Gosh
