Low Blood Sugar

Hi All, I'm 5 months post op and down 95 lbs. Yeah!!!!!! I'm off all my diabettes medicine since the surgery. Lately, I've been noticing that my blood sugar has been going lower. Today, I had a low blood sugar reaction and found my blood sugar to be 66. Too low for a person not taking diabettes medicine, and that was 30 minutes after eating. Anyone heard of this before or have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I have heard mention of type II diabetics becoming hypoglycemic [the opposite of high blood sugar] but I don't know much more about hypoglycemia and WLS. I'd ask on the main board, I bet you get a ton of it-happened-to-me-too! stories. I would also let your main doc &/or your surgeon know if you start to have symptoms/test that way regularly. I hope it was just an isolated thing! xosm

I've been having low sugar episodes too. I've found that if I eat a few "good" carbs during the day, I have better sugar control.

Hi Steph, I've heard that this can happen too and have been watching for it. I was Type II before surgery and have since gone off all meds and my sugars consistently run 85-95. Start taking your bloods 3 to 4 times a day and make sure your 6 meals are spaced out so you don't have lows. After a week or so of data gathering you'll see patterns and know if you need to see your endocrinologist or pcp. Good luck w/this and keep in touch. Jackie
