Sooo Worried!

I am currently just over 4 months out. I have lost 76lbs so far. I have suddenly found my appetite has greatly increased. I very rarely get dumping syndrome and I am wishing that I did. I have gone a week without losing any weight and I am scared. I am afraid that I have ruined myself and that the surgery may have been a waste. I am now realizing (I was in denial before) that my eating is an addiction. I don't want this to be for nothing. I need some help. Has anyone experienced anything remotely like this?? Thanks for your feedback!

Hi! We've lost the same and are the same post-op. I've never dumped on ANYTHING. My doctor said people don't usually dump after a year anyway-so it's nothing to rely on. I just went 23 days without losing a pound!!!! Before that 3 weeks!!! We will lose slower now-look how much we've already lost? We are ALL afraid of messing up our surgery and failing because we have failed so many times before with our weight loss. Some days I can eat A LOT more than others. I just started tracking everything on fitday.com-free-and I bought two books about emotional eating that I found on OH. I'll give you the names if you are interested.

Stefani, I think you're doing great for 4months. I'm also 4 months and I've lost 60 some pounds. Last night, I mentioned to my husband that I thought my tool was broken. I can eat a lot more & like you, I have not gotten the dumping syndrome. As far as the weightloss, I've only lost 6 pounds this month so far. That's very little to compared to what I was losing before I hit my 4th month. I guess I wouldn't be too worried until past your 6th month because they say after the 6th month it's over (the weightloss "honeymoon" that is). So this month is a slow month but next month I bet you're going to lose bunches! I wish you the best Elisa

i have noticed i go through "phases" where i am eating like a hog ( or so it seems still not like i used to eat) and then i will go through where i dont eat much at all. NOW if you are working out or just started to work out your body will get more hungery because you need more fuel when you work out. i worried too when i would eat more. but i think out body just is trying to adapt. I stalled for 3 weeks then lost 3 pounds stalled for two weeks then lost 3 pounds so i think at this point everyone stalls i am at 4 months and 3 weeks and have lost 74 ponds so you are ahead of me dont get discouraged and remember what you are supose to do. Eat protien first do not eat to many carbs and drink drink drink. OH YEA EXERCISE!!!!!!! Good Luck! J

I am there with you. I have stalled too and it has worried and bothered me but I know it's just my body catching up with this weight loss. I have days when I can eat more and then some days I can hardly eat anything. I am working on my fluid intake because I tend to forget to be drinking. I would encourage you to just log everything you are eating and drinking and measure yourself. You could be losing inches but not weight especially when you exercise. I've started losing my hair in this fourth month and usually it happens in the third. It's bumming me out but I know it will come back and I'll be ok. take care

I think alot of people's weight loss slows down at the 4th month, and the appetite increases. You are definitely not broken! The body has to pace itself. If we lost rapidly from start to finish we'd die. I think you are right on target. I have lost 70 pounds. I realize you are mainly concerned about eating too much, we all seem to get worried about that. I find that my mind is skewed a little, because I'll think I ate sooo much, but when I write it down it was nothing like I used to consume. Our perspective has changed. The best advice has already been given, eat protein 1st, and less carbs, and more liquid with regular exercise, and it may slow, stall, or even stop, but you will maintain better, and losing 78 pounds is a HUGE accomplishment in my book! The goal is to be healthier. I don't dump either, but I stay away from sugar, starchesand caffeine because they increase appetite. I appreciate your speaking up and sharing your fears, that all of us at one time or another feel in this daily journey! We are in this together. Rebecca
