OT - I can swim!?!??!!?
One of my goals for myself was to learn to swim. I'm so afraid of water. Yes, I know I do aqua aerobics 3 times a week. But, I don't out my face in the water! Last night was my first swim lesson at the YMCA. Here's how it went:
Instructor: Come on Terri. Put your face in the water. It won't kill you.
Me: Yes it will. My face will melt and fall off.
Instructor: Aw. You'll be ok. I'm right here.
Me: Right here? You're at least 6 inches away. I might drown before you can save me!
This went on for some time before she gave up and called in backup. Now, Nicole, the second instructor was a saint. She started me off practicing putting my ear in the water, then my mouth, then my nose, back to the ear, etc. After about 5 minutes, I realized ... OMG! They gave me the instructor for babies! Every time I would put my ear, nose, or whatever in the water, she would jump up and down, clap, and yell "good job!" I started laughing so hard and realized that's exactly what I was being ... A BABY!!!
It was a turning point for me. I was like what the heck, if a baby can swim so can I! Within 5 minutes of my "epiphany", I was floating like a pro. By the end of the class, I was swimming. Now, I could barely save myself, but it was swimming.
