ATTENTION
My husband and I went to Sunday Brunch today at a military facility and they refused to honor my WLS card and allow me to pay a childs meal price. Their specific response to the question after involoving the hotel manager AND the restaurant within the hotels manager was this "We do not honor THAT TYPE of condition."
Ummm "that type" of condition? Ok so which conditions do you honor? and If you honor any type of medical restriction at all then Dishonoring WLS patients, (which is a medical restriction) in my eyes, is Blatant discrimination.
So I ask ALL of you to keep this in mind when patronizing not just military facilities, but any and ALLLLLL facilities that refuse to honor our "Gastric Bypass" card. In my humble opinion no establishment can justify charging us full price at a buffet style establishment considering we eat less than most infants in which they allow for free. I am livid over this.
Please post any establishment that has dishonored your Gastric Bypass card so that we all with know about it.
The establishment I went to was "The Banyan Tree" Sunday Brunch at the Hale Koa hotel specifically so you know to steer clear of the place.

Hello Steffie,
You see this discussion on the main board a lot. From what I see, most say buffet's won't take it, and that if you want to go to a buffet the best thing is to get the take out by the pound, and eat it at the table, with the rest of your party. People have mentioned doing this at Golden Corral, in specific.
HTH
Gosh
PS With my stricture I just have iced tea.
Hey steffie,
I understand that your upset, but if you think about it logically you really have no reason to blast an eatting establishment (unless they went out of their way to make you feel bad). IMHO they are just trying to operate a business, which is very expensive. There is rent to pay, peoples salaries to pay, light bills to pay...etc etc.
These gastric bypass cards are not official discount cards like the entertainment book. They are most often printed off people computers, and to expect a resturant to accept a "coupon" or "discount" that they did not negotiate is really a bit much.
Perhaps it would be better for you to stay away from buffets at this time and eat at regular resturants. Either share a meal with your spouse or take home your left overs. I did both. Until i was 3 months out I shared with my spouse, currently i order something, eat what i want and take the rest home..and usually have left overs for one or two ..sometimes 3 more meals.

I'm sorry you experienced that. Unfortunately it's something that we'll all experience at one point or another. It's how we deal with it that defines us. The fact is that they don't have to honor anything that is not a lifethreatening condition. "Allergic to peanuts" is a lifethreatening condition and they absolutely HAVE to honor that person's condition and prepare/cook all food seperately. And actually, if the establishment is not equipped to accomodate even a life threatening condition, they HAVE to refuse service.
So, here's the thing, learn from experience, don't go back and feel free to tell others in your area, but not all chains are alike and you'll probably get a better response from your state board. I know someone mentioned golden coral on on here and the golden coral in my area does accomodate WLS patients. I actually have found alot of restaurants in my are will accomodate me. And when they don't, I order from the regular menu and have luch the next day.
Finally, if you look at the amount og fats in "kids menu" foods, you really shouldn't be eating those anyway. Ask for 1/2 portion of your favorite meal, alot of places are doing that these days. They are calling the "appitizer" portions.
Good luck
