Hair Loss and Protein
I know the anesthesia causes a lot of the hair loss but, I have spoke to multiple people about their hair loss and my University doctors on this and they all say the same thing! Start pounding the protein. It is most important now to get in 60 or more grams of protein a day. I know some doctors have told some of you to lower your protein intake but, I also noticed those same people haven't complained of hair loss. I chug my milk. I drink like a half gallon a day plus I eat my cheese. I added that Body for Life chocolate mint bar as a treat and I am keeping my protein at 80-90g. I hate food now but, I force myself to eat. I think they said at 8 months your hair problems go away and your hair thickens. I let everyone know how my hair does. My one problem is my taking the vitamins and other pills (12 a day at different times).
Positive note: If you are losing your hair, we had the surgery at the best time because this is hat season. Everyone wears hats to protect them from the sun and they have a lot of cute hats out there. We can wear baseball hats and brim hats. Plus pony tails and headbands look so cute in the summer. And in the summer, they have those craft fairs with the extension ladies that clip onto your hair. Best wishes!! We will all look so cute this summer decked out in our summer gear and accessories.
I know everyone is doing so well. Sorry I haven't posted much recently. I got an injured hubby in San Diego back from Iraq and I have a 15 month old. Plus I lost my job because of having the surgery. I have been on a job hunt. Things have been crazy. I saw how well you are all doing and wish you the best.
Hugs and Kisses,
Sandy

I heard a lot of different theories, the most logical being that the hair loss [in the 3-6 month period] is mostly related to the trauma of surgery. I've heard tell that other type surgeries [c-section for example] also go thru a period of hair loss around this stage as well [I did not lose hair after my c-section, nor do I seem to be losing hair now].
It wasn't enough for me though, just to leave it up to chance, so I took all the precautions I could, including keeping my protein ABOVE 50g a day from the day I came home from the hospital [my one shake is 46 grams in 8-12 ounces] ... since about 6 weeks out I've kept my protein above 100g a day. I also take Biotin daily [although I ran out and was without it for about 2 weeks about a month ago], I am good with fluids, I make sure I get FAT in my diet. I believe I'm still at risk to start losing my hair, and nutrition is certainly a factor too, but I can't help but wonder if it was just something I DID or AM DOING just the luck of the draw??
Anyway, Sandy, that's so less important than your hubby being HOME from Iraq. I hope his injuries are not too severe, please send him my deepest regards and THANKS.
{hugs} Hope the crazies settle down for you.

Hey there, Sandy. It is good your husband is home. Hopefully his injuries are not too severe.
I hope you find a job soon!
about the hair thing....my sister had the surgery a year ago.....and I had it in Feb. she hasn't gotten in her protein or vitamins properly, and she lost a lot of hair.
I take my vitamins, and I also take 2500 mg of Biotin a day. I haven't had any hair loss. I also have my protein at about 100 g a day.
my problem is getting in the water. ugh. I need a swift kick in the pants! I need to drink my water!
I pray all slows down and that things straighten out for yall!
