CONSTIPATION...

Hey all ! Hoping that everyone had a wonderful weekend. I just remembered that when I spoke to my Surgeon last week, the painful question of constipation came up. He suggested that I try Magnesium Citrate. I found it at the local drug store near the other laxative stuff. It even comes flavored ! So I grabbed a few bottles and came home to test the latest in "heiny preservation efforts!" He suggested about 4-5 oz. which is about the size of a dixie cup. Told me to be sure to take enough to totally cleanse myself so I may need to do a second dose but to start with the 4-5 oz. Well let me tell you.... I am so happy to have found out about this stuff ! It worked !! It worked, It worked !!!! It doesn't taste great but I was able to get it down without gagging (which was not the case for that crappy fiber mix stuff !) Since I "did the deed" I have been able "to go" a couple of more times and not been any where near constipated. I also finally had my first lettuce this weekend and am going to keep up with salads every other day thinking that the roughage will help me. I know that alot of us have been having "trouble" so I just wanted to share the good news !! - Terri

Is magnesium citrate the same as Milk of Magnesia [Mom]??? xosm

Nope... This stuff is a colored liquid that has a tiny bit of "effervescence" to it... Not carbonated like soda but just a smidge of bubble... Gave me a huge frightening burp though... Three flavors, lemon-lime, grape and then cherry ( I think cherry... yeah... cherry...) Tastes like strong seltzer with a bit of flavoring in it. MOM ( if I remember right) was chalky and this is nothing like that... Got 4-5 oz down in a bout 10 minutes... It wasn't a great thing but it was worth it to get cleaned out !

Interesting. I happily have been able to go, but I like to have things on hand for if and when I can't ... I'll look for it. Thanks! xosm

Thank you for sharing Terri. I've had a lot of problems since surgery with this issue. MoM is the only thing that has worked, but I'd like to try something different. When I am keeping up with protein supp's it gets really bad. I am wondering if this is now going to be a life long problem?

Thanks Terri, I'm going to look for that stuff because I'm having trouble again. Ugh...will I ever find relief again? I also wonder if this is something we're going to have to deal with after a year of post-op? I'm going to go ask. Hey I ordered those power crunch bars you suggested. I hope I get them soon. I just placed my order last night and I can't wait to taste them. I got the triple chocolate-just like you said . Elisa

My surgeon said that some post-ops have the trouble for a bit and some longer. It depends on your fiber consumption and your liquid intake. I was/am diabetic so I carefully watch out for carbs so I don't get alot of fiber. I am doing really well with my liquids though so things are looking better ! But, at least I have something now that I can rely on. That alone is a wonderful thing. I know that just the idea of not knowing what to take was so frustrating that it was almost scarey. Yeah, those triple chocolate bars are just too good. Going to place another order this week myself. I ordered protein pudding from them, and the Ostrich/Beef sticks. Going to test it all out before the end of the week so I don't have to have a million orders going out ! -Terri

Hi Elisa, I like the Power Crunch bars too! I'm not sure where you live but the mfg of them does road shows at Costco's throughout southern Cali and they my even go to central Cali. I bought mine at Costco for $12.99 a box....I stocked up the last time they were in Fullerton. Email the company and they will tell you if and when they will be at a Costco near you anytime soon. Enjoy! Sylvia

I was having trouble too and the Colace wasn't working anymore so my doctor suggested Senokot.....I take 2 tablets every night at bed time and haven't had any problems since. I don't do well with the liquid stuff, it makes me gage so the Senokot is great and they are small pills. Sylvia
