Topic: Reactive Hypoglycemia
I was just diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia almost 4 years after surgery. I have been miserable after every meal and have gained almost 60 pounds because of it. After eating, almost anything, my heart starts racing up to 110 beats per minute and I get real tired and sometimes cant avoid sleeping especially after a high carb meal. My fasting blood sugar was at 79 and 2 hour was 57. The other day I ate a healthy egg beater scramble for breakfast with some veggies and in 30 minutes of eating i was at 84. If anyone is having similar symptoms please get looked at. I was going some research at it seems that 1-2% of WLS patients get this, but my primary doctor has 3 now. I have another friend that is experiancing symptoms but has not gotten checked yet so she is not confirmed. The treatment is a low glycemic diet like Zone or South Beach. If that does not work there is medications or worst case another surgery to remove all or part of the pancreas. The sooner you are diagnosed the better. State of mind is decreased some with blood levels below 60, more noticibly when less then 40, and can lead to seizures. I have had short term memory loss really bad this past year and really bad nightmares several in a night. I cannot stress that if you even think you may have symptoms get checked, even if you do not. There are several things online about this even as early as 2000-2004 studies. I started with simple weight gain as my first symptom. I just wanted to pass the word on to those that have had surgery.

Cassandra, Tho I'm old enough to be your mom. . . I see we share 2/16/05! I think of that day as my 2nd birthday. You are so fortunate to have been so young when you had your surgery.  I was 55. However, I am happy to have the life I have now. Hope you are too.

Hi, I haven't stopped by in some time either. I started at 377, lost down to 185, currently about 210. . . not exercising, grazing, doing those things that I know are not good. It is a reminder that indeed it wasn't brain surgery. My brain is still screwed up. I feel great, I do take all of my supplements. I don't think there is anything wrong that getting back to working off more calories than I put in won't take care of.  Gave myself a good talking to this am and vowed to start out better today, not waiting for tomorrow. (Monday of course!) Best wishes to you all.  It's an incredible journey, we have the tool to help us, we just need to remember what we did early on. It was a honeymoon period wasn't it? For over two years my weight just almost effortlessly fell off. No more. . . alas, I'm going to have to work at it.

There does not seem to be very much traffic on this board. Not like it used to be when we were all new to having the sugery. I just got my labs back and they are not very good. I have not been taking my supplements like I should, so I have really bad numbers, I have to get myself back on track or I could cause great harm to myself. Other than that, I was married this past May, we are very happy. I started at 350 and got down to 163 last fall but I currently weigh 177, I would love to get back the at least 165, I was really happy there but I tell you, wearing a size 14 is way better than a tight 32!!! To be able to have a beautiful wedding gown in a size 14 was truely amazing.

Topic: RE: NEED HELP 3 YEARS OUT, NEED TO LOSE 10-15 POUNDS!!!
I'm having the same problem - I know that my main issue is lack of exercise. Over the Winter I got lazy and really am having a hard time getting back in to exercising every day. I also think that as we get further out our bodies adjust to the changes and it makes it harder to maintain our weight. I haven't been on the boards lately either so that makes it easier to forget that I need to pay attention EVERY DAY to what I eat and how much exercise I get. I see that your post was a couple of months ago - hope you have had success with the weight that you wanted to take off. When we think of how much we had to lose before surgery it seems like 10 - 15 lbs should be easy to take off, but it's sure not.

Hello fellow Feb. maintainers. My check up at the surgeons went very well, for being 3 yrs out. I weigh the same as last year, which is great and I have much more muscle mass and look better. I don't look so scary skinny, I look healthy. The only thing they have to do is get me more calories with the treadmill walking that I do each day- I am burning up all my stores of carbs, then having low blood sugar. Who knew? I wish you all well on your continue journey of great health and vitality. God bless.
