hi dawn. happy june. i'll admit it. i'm testing, too. but i'm not sure that's a bad thing, as long as i stay away from the foods i know 'trigger' me. my thought is that we've all been on restricted diets for so long now that it was inevitable we test our boundaries. the only thing i'm pretty sure my pouch wasn't ready for was the pumpkin seeds, shells and all. and i've always maintained that one small bite of anything won't hurt. again, with the exception of my 'trigger', which happens to be sugar. so, please, don't torment yourself. you still have your tool. it was always a given that you would go back to regular eating, but now, with the tool in place, you're in control. you can stop with one bite. and, IMO, that's the crucial, life-saving, difference. have a good one dorthe

Topic: RE: How much have YOU lost and are you normal?
Okay Kia, that sounded like a good idea until I did it, now I'm a little depressed. If I read it correctly it said that I should be down about 90 lbs. I have only lost 60ish. I haven't lost anything in 3 weeks. I'm hoping it will pick up again. The exciting thing is, it said I could hope to get down to 184 lbs. That would be more exciting than words. My doc. won't give me a goal weight, they just want you to be healthy. My own personal goal is around 200 lbs, but 185 would be totally awesome. Thanks for giving us the link. Mary M.

Ok some of you may not know that this *calculater* is here on the OH website so here is a nice link to it. http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/postopplanner.phtml You input your STARTING weight where it says how much you weigh now, and your height. Then you guess a figure on how much you expect to lose. For me, the figures work perfectly if I put in 95 (since my ideal weight is supposed to be around 155) I suggest you start at 80 and if that doesn't give you the ending figure you or your doctor are shooting for, just re-calculate with a new figure until you get your ideal chart. This really helps me stay focused when I swear everyone is losing faster then me, etc. etc. Give it a try! Kia 284/219/155 ish down 65# !

I have been "testing" the last couple of weeks too...but you are right I am trying a bite of something not the whole thing. It worries me too, and I have hit kind of a plateau the last couple of weeks I have only lost a total of 7lbs. Most times I am finding that if I try a bite of something I think I really want that satifies me and I really don't want anymore. Also, I know with me it got to the point where I had two choices...eat a little that was not on the program for another couple of weeks or not eat at all because I was so sick of what I could have that I would rather not eat at all. Hopefully we will all be fine and this "testing" of our new tummys is just a phase. Pam

First of all . . . . I am soooo happy for you! But . . . I am soooo down for me! I've only lost 45 lbs. in 3 months and I'm only loosing about a lb. a week. I don't think I'm eating too much and I go to water aerobics three times a week. My biggest cheat is whole wheat crackers - I usually eat about 6 of these a day. My mouth craves the crunch.

I have been doing a little testing of my own. Now to be honest I am not pushing the sugars testing (my family had a pecan pie this weekend and I did not even eat one bite and that was my all time favorite pie before surgery) but I did eat some chicken at this chinese buffet that was not the healthiest. It was coated and had some high carb coating like honey over it and I did try that with no problems. I will try harder in the future to avoid that stuff too - it's hard though sometimes, isn't it? Here i am at 14 wks out, im doing great, no complications, no vomiting, dumping or ill feelings..ive lost 61 lbs and just loving life, but over the last week or so, ive noticed that ive been testing myself...i'll take a bite ..one bite wont hurt ...i'll see how it does...this scares me ...i know that i should be able to eat just about anything now, but i find myself testing the "bad foods" ...there is a difference..a light at the end of the tunnel i suppose tho, cuz i know before this surgery, i wouldnt've just tried "just one bite" i prolly wouldve eaten the whole darn thing..or two or three LOL....how is everyone else doing? -hugs- dawn OPEN RNY 02/16/2005 265/204 -61 lbs 14 wks out
