Topic: RE: How much can you eat?
I am so glad you asked this. I am thinking I am eating too much. I checked out a hospital website and they said we should be eating around 1300 calories. I don't do that yet. I had my surgery on 2/14/05 and things are going well. I definitely felt like I had hit a plateau for a few weeks. It was actually encouraging to hear so many of you have felt that way also. Maybe it is normal at about 3 months out. To date, I have lost 57.5 pounds. Everyone keep up the good work.

Hi Christine,
I'm with you on all of the protein shakes and bars. I don't even like the ones that taste like choc. I was in the same boat as you until I tried the fuzzy naval protein. One scoop mixes with 8 oz of water (it totally mixes) and tastes like watered down orange juice. It is great stuff. It is only 90 cal. with no carbs, sugars, or fat and 23 gm of protein. They also have other flavors but I am sold on the orange flavor. You can order sample packs from bariactriceating.com.
Good Luck,
Mary M.
Topic: Protien.....HELP!!!!
I am 3 1/2 months out and have lost about 65 lbs. I am an over the road truck driver so my schedule is really whacko!! I have found that I hate protien powder, bars, and supplements in general.
I don,t get my 3 meals. I usually have a yogurt for breakfast and I try to cook a meal in my truck which is fish or steak and veggies on a George Forman grill. I sometimes eat fresh fruit. I know I am not getting enough protien from this. Sometimes I drink a lowfat milk also but I know it is still not enough! I take a 1 a day vitamin and my B-12.
What can I do to get more protien? I have found that they don't have anything in the truck stop of nutritional value! Time is also a factor for me I enjoy cooking but there is no way I can do this 3 times a day.
I am on the road from 4 to 6 weeks at a time.
I am begining to worry that this will catch up to me!! I don't want to "crash" nutritionaly speaking. Any ideas will be helpful. God Bless and take care out there......What a wonderful journey!

Hi Kia,
(I use to have a very close friend of mine, who is an Optometrist, named Kia-- we still send Christmas cards to each other.... I've always loved the name, it's beautiful!)
A friend of mine a few month's ago showed me the 'calculater'. It's been very encouraging. It was hard seeing how much everyone else was losing and losing less than the average. But when she showed me how to calculate my weight loss, I was shocked at my results!
I've lost 52 pounds (I only weigh on Mondays) and it calculates me at 97% weight loss!!! That's fantastic!!! How can you ask for better than that!???

hi kate
congrats on the success story. that's wonderful. at 3 months i had gone down 75 pounds. woohoo! i have a long, long way to go, though, and i'm still not able to exercise very much. right now i'm in physical therapy for the fractured leg. it's still not back to where it should be and i'm concerned that i'm hurting it in some way - worsening an already badly set bone.
anyway. my food habits are about the same as yours - with the exception that i'm trying just about any foods now. just a bite of anything i want except sugar (it's my trigger).
great question, kate. take it easy and good luck with your ongoing success story.
