Topic: RE: Bread...or not?
Actualy my nutrtionist is MAKING me eat bread lol! Can you believe that? Me being forced to eat food now? Who woulda thought? Ive been having some problems with food (not physically but mentally) I am terrified to eat. I dont want to get back to my old ways and am still afraid that this wont work for me. Well I talked to my surgeon and my nutrtionist (they work together in the same office which is so handy) and basicaly was told that I am becoming malnourished and need to add more carbs and calories. They let me know that I HAVE to have carbs in my diet to give my body fuel and I should try and eat at least one piece of bread or 2 ounces of pasta a day. That is my surgeon though and they all are different. I tolerate bread and pastas very well (which is why I'm so afraid to eat them major trigger food for me) it doesnt have to be toasted for me and I think most surgeons agree that as long as it settles with you and its good carbs(whole wheat bread- my nutrtionist has me on the lite bread pretty tasty) than it should be okay. As long as your getting your protein and fluids in a few carbs shouldnt hurt anybody. Again this is just how my surgeon feels. Talk to your nutrtionist and see what their thoughts are. In the end we all have to make our own choices based on the information we receive. Just make sure the information comes from a reliable source (ie your surgeon, nutritionist, long term post ops who have used the same program and surgeon) *Most do start out toasting the bread while your pouch is healing so it settles better. Then as time goes on you venture out a little. Keep up your great work! Krystle

I don't do bread. I'm doing the atkins diet. i have however tried the low carb wraps a few times. i just toasted them a little in the toaster oven. they're pretty good, but i've been avoiding the bad carbs now because I'm to a point where i can control my diabetes with diet only. no more diabetes meds for me!!

Hello everyone....just wondering, do you guys eat bread or not? It was on my list of DONT'S (well it said no "doughy" bread) so I've not eaten any at all. But in reading other profiles and such, I see people talk about eating bread. I was just curious as to what others from February were doing. Thanks! Sheila
