I have lost 82 pounds in 5 months. I had to loose a 125 pounds. I was 267 and now I am 185. I thought I was losing slow at first but when I looked back I wondered when it came off? I am more patient with myself now. It will come. Cory

Dorthe, I am a nurse....and just wanted to let you know that frequently, with the elderly, when they go through general anesthesia for a surgery, it does tend to cause some confusion that lasts for a little while. I see this quite often with our older orthopedic patients. I know its hard not to worry...but I hope that it eases you a little to know that its a common side effect. Our family will remember him in our prayers tonight......and now. Dear Lord, Please be with Dorthe's father at this time. Please help him to recover and be as he once once. Please watch over and protect him, and ease Dorthe's worries. We thank you Dear Lord for all that you have already done.....In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

hi all: i'm asking for prayers and good thoughts for my dad. he had surgery for his diverticulitis last tuesday and is struggling with his recovery. when i tried to call him today he didn't recognize me. i know he's where he needs to be - in the hospital - but it's difficult for me to accept the reality of his current situation. i'm daddy's little girl, always have been, and am hoping we have at least a little while longer with him, God willing. Thanks for any and all support, all. Have a great evening. dorthe

For what it's worth, here is my info... Heaviest - 380 Initial Consult Oct '04 - 356 Surgery - 328 Day After Surgery - 348 June 1, '05 - 287 June 30, '05 - 287 Today - 278 Loss Since Consult - 79 Goal - below 175? Please note my plateau during June. That was really hard. My dr hasn't set a goal that I am aware of. I can remember when I reached 180. I felt (and was told by other) so fat! Now I am dreaming of reaching that weight again. All I can do is follow WLS policies and watch what happens now.

I just got back from Florida and was surprised to see I gained 2 lbs. I walked for miles the whole week. I didn't think I was eating more but I'm sure I was since my family ate breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack with out missing a beat. I still ate my small portions and drank but I am now home and back on track. Tomorrow I start work and I think that will put me back in the right thinking mode. Stay safe.

I too was concerned about how much weight I was suppose to loose! Then I am feeling sooo good and am thankful for having this surgery that I don't worry about how fast I loose it - I just do the plan the Dr. gave me faithfully - well nearly. My heaviest -223 lb. 12/04 Surgery - 215 lbs 2/22/05 Today - 150 lbs. 7/05 I had 100 lbs to loose and my goal is 125 - 130. Don't worry about the numbers - do you feel better, can you move around easier, and isn't life wonderful ? If you can answer all these questions with a YES ! Then go easy on yourself - you will get to your goal one day at a time... Take care and thanks for bringing this subject up it is so important to share. deb k

This is a good thread. I, for one, go bonkers seeing other people that are way ahead of me on weight loss that started out the same time I did. (Not smart or healthy, I know-human nature, I guess...) Heaviest: 274 December 04 Surgery: 254 February 05 Today: 194 July 05 Total loss: 80 lbs Loss since surgery: 60 lbs Weight goal: 145 Pounds left to get to goal:49

excellent idea, girl. i also feel that there's alot of concern and comparison going on - guess that's human nature. i've read every last one of the responses here. they all point to the fact that we're all very different, all doing well on our weight loss, and all learning alot. here's mine: highest pre-surgery weight 450+ date of surgery: 440 current weight: 340 goal intended: 180 (?) the + after the 450 is because i never actually wrote any of this down. i had a bmi of 68.5, according to my profile, but my memory is awful - or perhaps i'm blocking out the actual number. the (?) after the goal is because it's the weight i felt best at, even though it wasn't my lowest. i weighed 155 on our wedding day. (funny how i can remember that, huh?) but i was not able to maintain that weight at all. my doctor, god bless him, hasn't so much as mentioned a goal weight. but at my three month he was pleased with the progress. so am i and i guess that's what really counts. good luck to one and all. it's an amazing journey and i'm thankful each and every day. dorthe
