Topic: SIX MONTH FOLLOW UP REPORT
HI EVERYONE. i'm absolutely amazed at the results of my six month. i've dropped 106 pounds. am no longer on blood pressure medication and the blood pressure is fine. sleep apnea is gone. joint pain and aches are better. the results of the blood work came back and all the levels are really, really good. i am feeling little bitty spurts of energy. the surgeon said i'm a 'success' thank you so much to everyone who has seen me through some really hard times in the past six months. you've been amazing and kind and helpful and strong. for that i am truly grateful. take care - one and all. hugs dorthe

Topic: RE: meats and cheese taste awful, anyone else feel like this?
hi wanda: i had that right after surgery. i thought i had heard it was from the anesthesia - that metallic taste. that went away after about a month. since then, i've been able to eat almost anything that i've tried. i struggle with beef if it's not really juicy (cooked in a crockpot). have to choke down steak and hamburger. and i won't even touch sugar - it's a trigger for me. it might all be in your head, wanda, but i kinda doubt it. keep trying. one day it'll be a problem and the next day it'll be ok. good luck. you're doing really well. hugs dorthe

My taste has changed a lot. I never liked cold cheese before, now I love it. I can't eat chicken - it will NOT go down. I can't eat scrambled eggs. I don't have any problem with lean beef. I don't like nosugar pudding any more - used to love that stuff. What does taste good is crunchy things like soy crisps, nuts, crackers, but I gotta watch my carbs. Lynne

I can eat just about any meat or cheese but struggle with chicken (probably too dry). Have you tried peanuts or beans. I lived on beans the first 3-4 months. Sarah

I have just recently been able to eat chicken...every time I tried it for months I would get sick! I think for me its all in my head but since I do not like to feel sick ...I stay away from it. I would talk to your doc and ask what eles you can eat. Maybe beans? what about tofu? good luck! Lisa 371/341/232/140

I have a bad time with meat (pork, fish, chicken, turkey) and cheese, they just taste terrible. I haven't eaten beef since my doctor says no beef until 6 months. Since we're all at about the same stage, I'm wondering if other people are having problems with it too? I've been drinking 2 protein shakes daily so I'm getting my protein, veggies and fruit taste better than ever. I always liked meat before my surgery but now it's tastes metallic and sometimes even the smell makes me gag. I used to LOVE cheese now I can't even swallow a bite of it, I can eat an occasional egg but they don't taste really good either. Sometimes I wonder if it's all in my head??? I have my 6 months check up next week, so I'll definitely be asking my doc about it but just wanted some input from you guys too. Wanda 250/173/135

Topic: RE: six month checkup, anyone?
I have my check up on the 16th- and will have lab work done at that time too- I'll let you all know how it turns out. I've lost 77 pounds but have been stuck for a couple weeks- I seem to hold steady for a couple weeks then lose 5-6 pounds overnight-where does it go???? LOL Wanda 250/173/135

Topic: RE: Anybody just stuck???
HI Brandy-I too am 'stuck'--but my doctor and nutritionist talked about this at one of our support group meetings a few months ago- they say it happens to everyone at about 6 months post op. They said don't worry, keep doing all the right stuff and then it just 'magically' starts up again in a few weeks. So I'm just trying to keep myself on track (boy that can be hard, when the scales don't cooperate though) and waiting. I can eat more now too- but alot of things doesn't taste good to me -especially meats and cheeses-fruit is yummy and most veggies are good--thank goodness it's summer and I have real tomatoes and cukes from my garden,,,LOL. I've been drinking 2 protein drinks a day for quite a while and then just eating the veggies and fruit. It's been really hot and humid here so my exercise has been limited to using my treadmill for 30 minutes each day and doing some arm exercises with light weights. So hang in there girl with the rest of us-----we're gonna make it--we just need to be patient and keep up the hard work....you're doing great!! Wanda 250/173/135
