who determined your goal weight for you?

I'm just curious if your doctor gave you a goal weight or if you made one for yourself. I just took the highest weight in my normal BMI range and used that. My doctor didn't set a goal for me. I wish he would have though. Steph 350/174/165

Steph, My doc gave me a goal that he thought that the surgery would help me lose and a goal that he would like to see me lose. Well the surgery goal is 189lbs that would be what it would help me loose. But his goal for me is 164lbs that would be 225lbs lost. I would like to be at about 175lbs. I think that would be a good weight for me. so go with how you feel. Faith 389/246/???

My surgeon set my goal at 130 lbs, not sure what determined it but that is what he expects me to get to. I had originally thought I wanted to be around 120 lbs but I'm thinking 130 will be fine, I'll know for sure once I get there. Dana

well i just emailed my nutritionist from the surgeon's office and asked her what my weight should be. she said at 5'8" i should weigh 143. i set my goal for 165. that's quite a difference! my mom said over the summer she got up to 140 and she's 5'1"...and she looked ok to me. she thinks that 143 will be too skinny. what do you think?? has anyone had people tell them they're concerned that you'll become anorexic? i've had several people say that to me. and i don't understand why...i mean i do like to eat still. i just didn't know if that's the natural reaction to such a quick weight loss. steph 350/174/165

Steph, I'm hearing it too, "you need to stop", "I'm afraid you are becoming anorexic", "You're not going to be healthy". I'm 6 lbs to goal and that puts me at the high end of the normal BMI. I can actually get to 118 and still be in the normal range, but at 118 I think I'll probably be in a size 2 and that's to small IMO. Once I have PS (if I can ever afford it), I'm thinking I'll be in size 4, I don't want to be smaller. At 5'8" - 143 sounds too thin, remember our bones weigh more because we tugged all the extra weight as pre-ops, but your goal weight needs to be where you are comfortable at. Dana
