Hi all,
First of all I have been tracking my food on Fit-day. It was a very good suggestion. I tried to up my intake. Well I have gained 1lb I upped my water intake also. I have added a protein shake and the scale is going up. Help i have been having a back problem the past 4 days I went to the doc. They said that it was due to many years of being overweight. Well I said why is it bothering me now I have lost 137lbs. He said it finaly cought up with me. We will never know. it is better now and I went for a short walk at break time with a co-worker. I also am on the top floor of the office so I use the stairs not the elevator. It is not helping so any body know what the next step should be. Help Please. not sure what to do.

Faith, how many calories, carbs, fats, proteins are you eating daily? My surgeon recommended at least 60 protein, less than 30 carbs and doesn't say much about fats but at this stage we should be eating about 700+ calories per day.
As for your back, I can sympathize with you. Although I also had back problems pre-op, I am still having it. Now it is more like muscle pulls, I was told that the body is use to carrying weight a certain way and as we lose the weight our bodies have to adjust. Hope your back gets feeling better soon.

Hi Dana,
I get about 50 to 60 grams of protein, and the carbs are about 40 to 50 so that is a little high, and as far as calories about 700 to 750. I got on the scale this morning and it is up another pound. this is what I ate yesterday. 16oz protein 4 crackers with peanut butter 2 string cheese 1/2 cup of beef and brocoli 1/4 cup carrots and sm tortilla with ground beef and beans and cheese. I also got 60oz of water and 1 16oz minute made light guava mango. so I guess I need to stop the carbs. I have had the scale move up when I have alot of sugar but that also caused me to be very sick. Thanks so much for helping.

Faith, I think your food yesterday sounds reasonable, but maybe it is the carbs, I'm very carb sensitive and know that if I don't keep mine below 30, it won't be a good day.
Try upping your water some more, say over 80 oz, lower the carbs, up your protein and restart your body. Our bodies can get comfortable with the same routine and if we shake it up most times it will jumpstart itself.
Good Luck!

hi faith:
sounds like you're doing what you need to do so maybe you've just slowed down on your weight loss. i know i needed to step back from the scale cause i was letting it bother me way too much. i've been losing, albeit slowly, but when i was weighing myself daily i would see it go up and down repeatedly, and it was not pleasant to watch.
i can relate to the back pain, too. you've lost so much weight that your body is seeking it's new center of gravity - if that makes sense. my sister's a nurse and that's how she explained it to me. and since then, i noticed many different little things. for instance, i was used to walking bent over slightly, to accomodate the extra weight, i guess. so i'm consciously trying to straighten up now - it matters for your back. i also noticed that as i straighten up, my body brings my hips forward, so now when i walk i try to remember to walk with my body lined up (head over shoulders over hips...) i think it's starting to make a difference, too. as i move with my hips more forward, i'm using the upper thigh muscles more, so they ache alot, but at least i understand why, now. i haven't used them in awhile.
sorry this is so long, faith. guess i'm kinda wordy, but i hope it helps.
take it easy, and lose the scale not your hope.
hugs
