How much can you eat?
I had my surgery on 02/17/2005 and it seems that within the last week I can eat/am hungry more than before. For instance, today I had a packet of Quaker Instant Plain Oatmeal with 2 tsp Splenda. For a snack I had a Light 45 Vanilla Yogurt. For lunch our office made Quesadillas..I had two slices made with cheese and chicken...and I did sneak 2 girl scout cookies (they didn't make me sick, I don't dump...but I hope not to do that again, it scares me and makes me think of old habits). For a snack I had a small snack size container of cottage cheese. When I got home I had one string cheese..and then later a dinner of a few baked tator tots and 1/3 of a grilled burger with cheese. Then just this evening I ate a few animal crackers...low fat kind. This seems like a lot of food...but then, I never felt like I overdid it or ate too much..the times I have done it..I burp and belch and feel really icky. But it's really funny..a few days ago I fixed the same oatmeal and couldn't fini****!! I'm lost..am I doing something wrong??? Sometimes I think maybe I should be eating different foods that will 'sit' longer on my stomach. I dunno. My hubby keeps nagging at me to take it easy...not ruin a 100,000 dollar surgery...such a help!! LOL What about you guys?? I guess I'm terrified of doing something wrong...so far I have lost 65lbs..although I've been at a bit of a plateau for the last 2-3 weeks....only losing maybe 4 lbs of my 63. Am I screwing up the whole thing??
I can eat all the bad food. I'm a very bad girl when it comes to carbs. However those are the only food that seem to stay down and doesn't make me want to
I can eat 1/4 of a meal. About 3-4 oz of chicken with hot sauce. I don't know what is worng with me. But I always want hot sauce.
Plus I just started to notice that I am a late night eater still. So I'm going to have to stop that. I'm just going to have to go to bed early now. So I won't eat late anymore.
I keep hitting plateau and the weight hasn't move it 2 weeks. I'm very anger about that. But I just keep on trying. I know I'm going to able to lose all of the weight.
This is a good post, I often wonder what others eat.
I only eat twice a day. I have still not had hunger, so that helps. But I have found my whole attitude about food has changed. I can only eat 2-3 ozs at best, and fixing food is a lot of trouble for such a little bit.
I have two protien shakes made with Moo-topia (a milk my grogery store carries that is low sugar, added protien) and whey protien powder. That gives me 31 grams of protien for 8 ozs. Then I add a scoop of whey to 8 ozs of Crystal Light to get in 17 grams more.
I have only had one protien shake so far today, no food yet. I don't know what I might have. Nothing ever sounds good! Am I the only one that feels like that?
I am 13 weeks out today. I have lost 77 pounds so far.
I reckon we are all just learning as we go, and doing the best we can!
Hugs, Susan
Susan, no sweetie you are not the only one like that. I also have not felt hunger, or what I would consider hunger.
I eat my 3 meals a day and every once in a while I'll have a 1/2 cheese stick or 2-3 almonds or beef jerkey. My meals are usually between 1 - 2 oz and I have to remind myself to eat. They consist of lean meats and green leafy vegetables.
I am 13 weeks out also and down 56 lbs since surgery, down 77 lbs since first consult on 1/14/05.
I have no desire to eat carbs and when I smell fried foods I get nauseated. I am so hoping that stays around for a while because pre-op I was a rice and potato girl.
Hugs,
Dana

I can eat 4-6 oz of meat. I usually have a protein shake for breakfast, turkey chili with cheese or Chikfila Grilled chicken (not the bread) for lunch, for dinner, I pretty much eat whatever boyfriend cooks. Usually chicken, pork, or shrimp. I don't eat potatoes, but I have sneaked and ate corn on cob....Oh it is so sinful and I can eat it without butter. Anyway, I don't dump either, but I allow myself the fruit popsicles or the fudge pops with no added sugar. I think my problem is the fluid. I get a chickfila cup each morning at work and drin****water w/ walmart's version of Crystal Light to go Fruit Punch. It is so awesome and sugar free. It's much better than the lemonade or peach tea, or even rasberry ice. The only thing is everyone in Charlotte is catching on to it and it is hard to get or keep instock at Walmart Supercenters. Somedays I eat a powercruch bar for snack around 3. (you can order it from the advertisement at the bottom of the screen) It taste like those cream filled sugar wafers and they are soooooo good. Anyway, obviously what I am eating isn't working since I am currently stuck in rut. But that's what I eat. When I am on the go or traveling, I usually try to get Chili from Wendy's.
I had my surgery the day before you and here is what I usually eat
Breakfast- Yogurt with calcium citrate added
snack- almonds or peanuts
lunch- 1/4 to 1/2 cup chilli or 1/4 cup refried beans with cheese added to both, sometimes I just have shrimp with garlic about 5-7 pieces depending on the size
snack-a couple crackers or nuts
dinner- about an ounce of meat of some type usually pork(Goes in the best) a bite of whatever potato is made and a few bites of a veggie
snack- yogurt with calcium citrate again
I drink water all day long. I like plain water over anything else.
some days I dont do the nuts or crackers but I always have my yogurt to get in the calcium. If I am having a low protien day I will make a fruit smoothie with protien powder added.
It is getting easier now. I can eat just about anything I want to try. I do not however eat sugar. I have not tried it and plan to stay away from it.
Some days I am hungry all day it seams, other days I get full faster. The yogurt never really gives a filling feeling unless I eat a 1/2 banana with it.
Good luck. I have lost a total of 63 lbs. now-Kathleen
WONDERFUL QUESTION, DONNA.
I just spent alot of today feeling like i'm eating too much. after reading all the posts i now feel more like i'm closer to normal or average.
i have noticed what i can only consider a ravenous hunger. it's quickly quenched. i either chug water or tea. that helps. i had thought i was snacking too much but when i really look at it, i'm not - it just feels that way.
i generally start my day at 6 or so with oatmeal, with walnuts added.
then about 4 hours later i''ll have sf pudding cup and protein of some kind, about two ounces. by 2 or 3 in the afternoon i have a high protein bar. around 6 i'll have 4 oz of whatever's for supper. turkey, chicken, beef, mostly meat. i have had sf fudgsicle in the evening b4 bedtime (9)
in between all of this i'm generally drinking 60 - 80 ounces of water plus 20 ounces of sf tea and 20 ounces of coffee
my surgery was 2/8/5 and i'm down about 75 pounds now.
i think i'm doing ok but wish i could walk more. i'm still trying to recover from the fractured leg and planter fasciatis in both feet.
again, thanks for asking the question. it was good to hear from others at the same stage that we're at.

For me, it honestly depends on the consistency of food I am eating. Take Wendy's chili for example (my FAV) I can eat an entire 99cents size in one sitting (and almost a reg size one!) An still not feel full. It just slides right thru! But for example take another new favorite of mine, the South Beach Diet wraps (esp Southwestern chicken!) and one box makes 2 wraps. Well I can only eat one of those and have to set the other aside for a few hours. Good responses on this topic!
I'm about 3 1/2 months.
yesterday i had
B-1/3 breakfast burrito (no tortilla) bacon, eggs and cheese
L-1/3 hamburger patty with 1/2 slice of cheddar and some brocoli
S-Soy crisps, (a 1oz bag) the ones i had have about 14 carbs in a 1oz bag so that's kinda high..but i went to the gym so i don't worry about it much
D-four saltines and 1/2 a small wendys chili
This was a huge eating day for me, i normally don't have a snack but every now and then i allow one.
